The new-model blade is stiff, and doesn't conform easily to the sides of the bowl or pan that is being scraped. It leaves behind a lot more ice cream, icing, sauce, and gravy than the old "rubber" blade did. Of course, the new blade is probably more sanitary, because the harder surface is more resistant to colonies of mold or germs.
For most uses, a spoon-shaped spatula (even with a stiff blade) is still superior to a flat spatula, because the spoon shape makes it easy to scoop out thick mixtures quickly. I do recommend this well-made spoon-shaped spatula, although I wish that I could buy another of the older ones with the more flexible blade.
ETA 10/22/11: Since writing this review, I have discovered a great set of silicone spatulas (including a spoon-shaped spatula) that have blades with the same amount of flexibility as my old "rubber" spatulas: Wilton 570-1121 Easy Flex 3-Piece Silicone Spatula Set, Blue.
I have little use for flimsy/flexy spatulas. This is a stiff dough tool.
Bread dough, drop cookie dough, cold mashed potatoes,
marshmallow crispy treats etc.
I never use this with hot foods. They last me several years because I
don't put them in the dishwasher.
I gave it 4 stars because the handle is about an inch shorter than
they used to be and the spoon end is smaller, more narrow and rounder.
Used to be able to find them in most kitchen tool sections of dept. stores.
Other than that, works as expected.

Took a little effort to remove the stickers, but the product was exactly what I expected. The handle is firm the spoon end is rubber, not hard plastic.Published 3 days ago by Mark B
Originally purchased because of a good review on America's Test Kitchen. I use it every day. It cleans up beautifully.Published 17 days ago by jeansattic
The spoon shaped end makes this a bit LESS effective as a scraper, but for getting cake batter into a bundt pan, etc, it is just flat out wonderful.Published 25 days ago by anonymouse
Handle was very sticky after removing glue. Can't get the glue off.Published 2 months ago by Sharon B
Love the shape but, most of all I like that the handle is not separate from the spatula where residue can collect.Published 2 months ago by CornerStone
Looked for these for years and couldn’t find them so I thought they had been discontinued. My mom had some when I was a girl and I always thought they were perfect for my hands. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Barbara
