Two broken glasses sent me shopping for a new drainer.

On two occasions I placed a small (6-8 ounce) glass in my old drainer. The glass leaned over and fell right through the widely-spaced bars at the end. From there the glass hit the ceramic floor and I don't need to tell you the rest.

I checked two local chain stores and both drainers that they sold had the same "design flaw." In fact, if you look through the pictures of most of the drainers on Amazon you will see what I am referring to.

Deciding that the effort to visit all the stores that I needed to visit to find the right drainer might require quitting my job ;-), I decided to see if Amazon had what I was looking for. They did! The ends are closed so that the glasses can't pass through. The cup holders at the end are convenient, though I only use them for plastic cups. The metal is light gauge and seems a little "cheap", but is sufficient for its intended use. And the price is right, especially considering that shipping is free if you can bump the order up to $25 (find yourself a CD, DVD or travel book to get you there).

The strainer itself works fine, the problem is the plastic feet: they snap on to the bottom of the strainer leaving an opening at the top. This becomes problematic because the feet can (1) spin around, allowing the metal strainer to contact the sink, or (2) pop off easily, again allowing the metal strainer to come in contact with the surface of the sink. This is a problem because if you have a stainless steel sink basin like I do, the strainer will start to rust and stain the sink. I solved this by basically glueing the top of the plastic feet shut, but the product designers need to develop a more effective solution.

I had bought it for a bartender and she said that is ok, nothing special, so there you go already.

I really liked the design of this dish drainer. However, it did not fit into my double sink. The item was also received damaged but the seller immediately gave me credit for the purchase. I wish it had fit, I would have taken a replacement. I ended up having to buy the cheaper rubbermaid chrome drainer that will rust in a few months.
