Product Description

Amazon.com

Anyone who has sweated the minor inconveniences of food storage may find this 6-cup Rubbermaid Collapsible container close to revolutionary. Designed to expand with a simple push, the durable piece is more versatile than typical plasticware because it adjusts to meet the demand of the moment. If you have 6 cups of leftover soup, you can store it all. If you have just 4 cups, you can flatten the bowl a bit and avoid using up unnecessary space in the fridge. Better still, the piece collapses to 1 inch and stores with the lid attached, a welcome departure from awkward stacking and lid-hunting. Tested for long-lasting durability and leak-resistance, both lid and bowl are safe in the microwave, freezer, and dishwasher. Collapsibles are also available in 4-cup and 2-1/2-cup sizes. --Emily Bedard

I originally bought this rubbermaid in Publix and I found it so easy to store when I wasn't using it.

First of all, I love these. They fold neatly, take up little cabinet space, etc.

However, it does NOT say on the package that they are microwave or freezer safe. I find that info only here on AMazon which leaves me wondering...are they or aren't they?

Secondly, because the flattened containers have to be pushed open, these might be difficult for an elderly person to handle. It isn't exactly hard to do but does take at least normal strength, average strength, not something a weak, ill or otherwise impaired person might manage. Other than that, I think they are great. They clean up nicely, store food, the lids stay in place, etc.

Now if I only know about their microwave capabilities!

The accordian folds in the bowls need improvement. Firstly, my S/O could not get the bowls to open all the way. I got it open okay, but when I put medium temperature leftover chile into it, that 6-cup folded just like a cheap suit into a 4-cup. Was that by design? I don't know. It held 4-cups of chile. Perhaps that is the design - shrink to fit?

Washing the bowl in hot water did the same shrinkage. A 6-cup bowl shrinks to 2-cups and I had to wrestle open to clean the ridges.

Save your money on this one.

Good idea, but it doesn't work so well.

All in one versatile use. Very nice width and lid to conform to each collapse. Goes from freezer/refrigerator to microwave nicely and hasn't stained yet. The negative....it collapses too easily. The lid is difficult to snap on and on pressing the lid on, the bowl collapses. For those of you with hand difficulties and limitations, I would not recommend this product. Otherwise is a very innovative product.

These were very hard to get to fold flat, they kept folding wrong. Hard to clean as well, as the dishwasher didn't get in the crevices that are created by the folding material.

Do not attempt top use the container with warm or worse hot liquid's. I used it to try to store a stew. The Lid is very difficult to put on and the container collapsed almost immediately. I don't appreciate having to clean a counter, floor and base cabinet because of such a terrible product. I bought them for the low price but the aggravation factor was not worth it. A bargain their not.

This is the perfect on-the-go salad container. Throw in your ingredients (kale+ in my cake), put the lid on, shake it up... it's ready to go for the day and then you can collapse it easily when you're finished with it. It's a bit big to fit in my bag or back pack while it's full but I do eat a lot of salad, and then it folds into nothing when you're done. Great!

I would not recommend this product to someone who has arthritis. Its a great size, pretty big in my opinion and very sturdy.
