I have been looking for an inexpensive flour container that will last for some time now. At a 21 cup/ 5 liter capacity, this is perfect for 5 pound bags of flour. The plastic is sturdy and the container is easy to pick up with one hand.

The lid has a tight seal. It is also easy to remove and you can do it with one hand -- important when baking to make things go smoothly.

I have bought two of these containers, one for white and one for whole wheat flour. I am planning on buying another to store my sugar. Definitely a good buy!

Rubbermaid, can we talk? We get that you make really good containers. But you never told us you also make military grade glue to stick your Gigantic labels on the container! I was wondering what to do with all my spare time this morning! Thanks to Rubbermaid I was able to spend 20 minutes - per container - soaking and scraping. THIS is why nature gave us thumb nails! Scrape, scape scrape. Once I got the labels soaked off in delightful globs of wet solid, I then had to work on the glue residue. Joy! Rapture! After this quality time was exhausted I learned that indeed, the containers hold 5lbs of flour and sugar, as I'd hoped. And their rectangular shape fits well in my pantry's organization. Whee! I would buy them again, but would plan ahead to rent a flamethrower to quickly remove the labels to save time.

I've been searching for the perfect container to store a 5 pound bag of flour, and I'm really happy with this one!
-perfect size for 5lb bag of flour, with some room to spare
-Seals securely (not sure if it's technically airtight, but definitely better than a fancy glass/ceramic jar with no seal and FAR better than Lock & Lock Storage 21.1 Cup Storage Bin which CLAIMS to be airtight and watertight (I chose to ignore the reviews and go by the product description and past experience with the brand - big mistake. The Lock & Lock bin is most definitely NOT watertight or airtight.) Much happier with this one!
-VERY space efficient. No fancy snap/lock lids, which are cool, but make storage significantly less efficient.
-Graduation marks along the side so you can easily see how much is left in the container. (though they are really light, so you've gotta look closely to read the measurements)
-wide enough opening to scoop flour out of container and into measuring cup
-BPA free

I use this to store cereal and it's great because it actually fits on the shelf in my house - it's slightly shorter than an average cereal box and holds about 1 3/4 boxes of cereal (going off your average box of Kix, Chex..) The lid seals well and is not hard to remove. I will probably end up buying a few more.

I've used Rubbermaid products since I first moved out of the house at 18 (nearly 30 years ago). I liked them then because they gave me "Tupperware" type storage without having to go to a party and then wait for the goods to arrive.

Flash forward -- same convenience! I temporarily upgraded to some groovy containers and was disappointed in the seal, as well as the difficulty in washing them. Rubbermaid is E.A.S.Y. It goes in the dishwasher with no trouble. If you drop it on the floor, it won't break (or open up and spill everything -- usually). Are they beautiful? Nope, but there is a certain beauty in extreme function. I whipped out my label maker, made nice neat little labels for the containers, and stocked my cabinets. I am happy.

I bought 2 of these to keep dry cat food in because my cat got in the cupboard
and chewed a hole in the cat food bag.

These canisters were the PERFECT size for a 4 pound bag of cat food.

They are sturdy and fit well in my cupboard.

I love these containers because they hold over a 5lb bag of flour (or whatever). They have a nice seal. I used blue painter's tape to put in there what is in it. Also very easy to use when you want to measure directly out of the container with a 1 cup measure. They stack on top of each other and the smaller ones are great too. I will be buying more of these as I get more different types of ingredients.

First, the good news. We needed cereal containers that would fit in the 10.5 inch tall cabinets in the pantry of our new house, and these fit *perfectly*. They're also generously proportioned and hold a *lot* of cereal, and are easy to use. On top of all that, the lids are interchangeable with other products in this line.

Now, the bad news. The labels, which wrap around *two* sides of the container, are *impossible* to remove. I spent 20 minutes on the first one, scraping, scrubbing, soaking, and got about half-way. All three of the ones we purchased are now soaking in our utility sink in hot water and soap in hopes that it will make it possible to remove them.

Rubbermaid makes and sells millions of these types of products, so they have to know exactly how hard these labels are to remove, and yet they continue to sell them anyway. Boo on them for using these unremovable labels for their own reasons (saving a penny, preventing label swap fraud, etc) and passing the inconvenience on to their customers. Boo, hiss.

But yay on the actual containers. :)

Update: to finally remove the labels and adhesive scum I had to use Goo Gone and stainless steel wool and just scrub the heck out of it. I ended up causing a small bit of scratching on the outside, but not a lot and it's not noticeable unless you know to look for it, so that's one small silver lining to the incredibly unnecessarily Herculean task of removing the labels from these things.

These are great storage containers. They are large, and have a shape that doesn't waste space on the shelf.
