Product Description

This Hose Hook is great for organizing hoses or extension cords (up to 50 lbs.). Its "soft grip" coating protects it from nicks and scratches. A locking gripper and push/pull lever make it easy to attach and adjust on FastTrack Garage rails (not included). And with additional components that easily snap right into place, an endless number of configurations are possible to create 10 times more storage space than screwing hooks into studs.

Amazon.com

Keep hose bibs in easy reach up off the floor with this wall-mount utility hook from Rubbermaid. A tall lip keeps hose from spilling over. The unit mounts easily to wall studs or to the Rubbermaid FastTrack rail (sold separately on Amazon.com along with a full line of FastTrack storage system components). Designed to hold up to 50 pounds, the hook is equipped with a cast aluminum gripper that snaps tightly into the FastTrack rail system for that particular mounting application. The hook is protected with a soft coating that won't scratch or cut hose. A satin nickel powder-coated finish won't rust, chip or crack for years of reliable storage. --Brian D. Olson

Style Name: AccessoriesSize: Vertical Bike Hook
I am a big convert to the entire Rubbermaid FastTrack system because of its flexibility. Of course, one can screw in the individual items to the wall without the horizontal track system--but that would defeat the purpose of being able to move them around, which I do often with the addition or subtraction of items to hang. One reviewer cited the flaw in the vertical bike hook as being able to knock it off of the track with the bike tire. Valid point, but I just make sure I am careful hanging the bike tire, and there is no problem. I bought my hook years ago but I believe it has been redesigned with a latch mechanism that better keeps it on the rail in its current format.

Another reviewer rightly pointed out that the bottom bike tire will mark up a nice garage wall without something to protect the wall. I went to Home Depot and puchased a small, thin piece of plexiglass (about 6" by 6") for under $4 and used 4 small screws to secure it to the wall where the bottom tire touches the wall. Works and looks great.

Finally, I have a 26" trail bike, and found that the bottom of the FastTrack horizonal rail needs to be at least 6 feet from the floor to allow the bike to hang vertically without touching the floor.

We installed this Rubbermaid FastTrack system last night. It took about an hour to locate and mark the studs, drill pilot holes, insert wall anchors, and screw everything to the wall. This is a two-person job, so get someone to help you do all this and it will go smoothly. The one hiccup we had was working with the hollow wall anchors. They were VERY stiff and incredibly hard to insert into the drilled pilot holes. I ended up using a pair of pliers to loose them up and that helped some.

I ended up purchasing all of FastTrack equipment at Home Depot because I wasn't sure what hooks I needed. Looking online it's hard to know what you're going to need, so let me tell you what tools I have in my garage and what hooks I ended up buying for them.

In my garage I needed to organize the following 10 tools:
- (Qty 3) shovels
- (Qty 1) scoop shovel
- (Qty 1) snow shovel
- (Qty 1) garden hoe
- (Qty 1) garden rake
- (Qty 1) bush/shrub rake
- (Qty 1) outdoor broom
- (Qty 1) push broom

On my 84-inch FastTrack I ended up using the following hooks:
- (Qty 2) Rubbermaid 5E13 FastTrack S Hook Long Handle Tool Rack
This was great for the brooms, garden rake, and garden hoe. Any lighter weight tool is a great with this tool rack.
- (Qty 3) Rubbermaid 1784455 FastTrack Compact Hanging Hook
Used these with my shovels. Holds them very securely.
- (Qty 2) Rubbermaid 1784456 Fast Track Cooler Hook
For the larger scoop shovel this hook was perfect. I also used one for my shrub rake.
- (Qty 1) Rubbermaid 5E11 FastTrack Multi-Purpose Hook
Perfect for my large snow shovel.

The FastTrack and the FastTrack Hooks are good quality and I'm really happy with how easy it install and how easy it was to move hooks around and get everything coordinated and organized. The system also looks great in my garage.

This product is great if you are looking to clean and organize your space. Once installed onto the wall, you can use various hooks and attachements to your preference.

The only tricky thing is finding the studs behind your wall. Since the pre-drilled holes within the FastTrack rail are spaced where they are looking for an evenly spaced 16" between each studs.

As you know, while 16" stud spacing is the norm, this is not always the case. I have found that my garage did have mostly 16" spacing between studs, but sometimes a stud could have a 14" spacing.

My solution is to use a drill bit and to actually drill a new hole into the FastTrack rail. This works wonder since you do not have to rely on the pre-drilled holes if your studs are not spaced perfectly.

This way, you can ensure that you have at least 4 studs to attach this rail with. This would permit a maximum load capacity of 1500 pounds!

Oh, and to find a stud, it's best to use a stud finder and mark the "LEFT" and "RIGHT" edge of a stud. Then use a small nail and hammer it in between the "LEFT" and "RIGHT" edge. If the small nail "sticks" to a stud, you will feel resistance. If the small nail goes right through the drywall with no resistance, then you know that the stud is not there.

Don't worry about making too many nail holes since the FastTrack will cover it up. Just make sure that your nail holes are within the area that you wish to install the FastTrack.

Have fun decluttering!

To reinforce earlier comments: I installed tracks of several different lengths. Each track came with instructions advising that, to achieve the rated weight capacity, the first and last set of holes of the track should be mounted to studs. In each case, however, the track as supplied by the factory makes it impossible to follow the directions. The first and last mounting holes of the 48 inch track are 47 inches apart, the first and last holes of the 32 inch track are 31 inches apart, and so on. In each case, one but not both ends could be solidly anchored to a stud. It is difficult to imagine how this idiocy would have gone unnoticed during the planning for the product roll-out. This is not a product from an amateurish company operating on a shoestring budget. I have not been in a Home Depot or Lowes on the East Coast that has not had multiple in store displays of the Rubbermaid FastTrack system, complete with color brochures.

Nonetheless, the problem is not fatal. You can, as noted by others, drill extra holes in the metal, or you can add multiple sets of expanding metal hollow wall anchors or toggle bolts in the areas where you miss a stud. The tracks that I installed seem solid.

Another correctable problem you might run into: On some exterior garage walls, studs might have their long sides parallel rather than perpendicular to the drywall. That means that the 2-inch screws supplied in the Rubbermaid kits will have you drilling into brick or some other material that is better left alone. 1 3/4 inch screws, along with extra anchoring per above, should give you tracks that hold a substantial amount of weight. (Overall, the Rubbermaid hardware kits were mostly useless to me.
