1.0 out of 5 stars Awful for commercial use, April 14, 2010

This review is from: Rubbermaid Floor & Carpet Sweeper 6.5'' Path
I work in a restaurant and we go through floor sweepers all the time. We usually just pick up the first one we can find at Wal-Mart (which is a Bissell). They would last for about a month after very heavy use.. after that time the brushes would be so messed up from water, hair, dirt and whatever else would wind itself around the rollers that it they would become fairly useless. So I attempted to buy a carpet sweeper that would last and i decided to buy this one as it comes from rubbermaid's commercial line. This thing was horrible. Brand new it wouldn't pick up a straw wrapper off of our low pile carpet. It was so bad that for almost a month nearly every server decided to sweep the carpet with a broom rather than use this inefficient machine. Management finally decided to buy us some new carpet sweepers but, not paying attention, they bought us two more of these pathetic rubbermaid contraptions and then still later another one. All of them (and the bissell too) have absolute crap handles. They all fall apart and come off when you are trying to use them.. the current segmented-handle technology(?) for carpet sweepers seems to be at an all time low. I will say, after having gone through 4 of these hideous, HIDEOUS sweepers they do get slightly better with age and abuse.. but that usefulness is very short-lived and only a very small step up from the absolute garbage they are at the outset.

I wish i could tell you what makes this particularly awful unfortunately i don't know for sure; however, i am currently blaming the single rubber brush for its abysmal performance.. if you need real performance for commercial purposes to pick up semi-large items (e.g. french fries, straws, wrappers, pieces of ripped napkins, cherry tomatoes, and other restaurant related items) stick with a dual brush system and stay away from singular rubber brush sweepers because they simple do not cut it.

(this is my first review.. but i intend on reviewing more carpet sweepers so that anyone else who is in a similar dilemma will be able to make a more informed choice)
