A drying rack that rusts?,
We purchased this drying rack because it matched the stainless appliances in our kitchen and we trust the name. Unfortunately, this product began to rust within a couple weeks. A drying rack that rusts? Generally Rubbermaid products are well made, with quality construction. I can't believe that they would produce a product that should withstand water, that rusts.
We replaced this product after less than a month.

Yes, it rusts,

I ignored the reviews to my sorrow. This rack looked and worked great for 6 months, and then I noticed some rust marks on my beautiful bone china. There are horrible little yellow marks that look like food stains on the rims, and I have bleached to no avail.

This item is a *complete* waste of money. It does look good at first. But within three months it will rust. We treated ours so carefully - even making sure not to put metal items in it that might scratch it. But still it rusted on the bottom and at the joints where two wires come together. If you plan on getting your dish rack wet, don't waste your money on this one.

Not impressed with this chrome version...,

My old plastic Rubbermaid dish drainer finally wore out, after having it for at least a decade. I looked all over town for one like it, but all I could find was this chrome version, like all of a sudden, no plastic dish drainers? Reluctantly I bought it. I don't like it at all, I feel like it's harder on my dishes. I don't like the sound of dishes clinking on the chrome wire. Also, the feet got rusty. I'm so happy I found the plastic coated type here on Amazon, I'm ordering one today!

This is just what I have been looking for in a dish drainer. I had a plastic one before and I could not keep it clean. I really like the chome look, it goes with everything in my kitchen.

Great Design--Will Rust in a Few Years,

I have owned the chrome dish drain for about three years. It is the perfect design that I have used for years. But, in time it will rust. About 30% of mine is showing small rust spots now. Before purchasing the chrome dish drainer I purchased the "antimicrobial" dish drain by Rubbermaid. I suggest the rubber coated one as it will last longer. I also suggest that you purchase a "Utensil Drying Rack--Three Compartments" for $5.89 to go with either the stainless or the rubber coated rack. Without it you will not have enough room for flatware. The small container that comes with the drain is not large enough. Purchasing a stainless drain is an option, but the design of the Rubbermaid is the best in my opinion. I would gladly pay for a stainless drain if it was the same design as the Rubbermaid. If you like the design of the stainless drains then this might be your best purchase. But, if you like the design of the Rubbermaid then I would buy the Rubbermaid and just count on replacement in about four years with the chrome one. (The chrome drainer will last about four years in my experience and the rubber coated one will last probably twice as long.) I am going to be purchasing another drain soon and I will purchase the "Antimicrobial" drain since I know it to last longer before needing replacement. The chrome one looks better but the rubber coated drain will last longer. Sooner or later the rubber coated dish drain will begin to crack and when the water starts getting on to the metal the metal will rust. The rubber coating will last for years and provide protection from rusting. The Rubbermaid product is good and I certainly would purchase again. However, if you purchase this dish drain you should know of its failings and its advantage in design.

I had got this to replace a Rubbermaid Dish Drainer my mom had for over 20 years (not kidding). It's big and fits a lot of dishes but it started to rust the first month we had it. It didn't look nice at all and I was shocked! I soon replaced it with a Rubbermaid Antimicrobial Dish Drainer. They are just about the same thing but they have a rubber caseing around the chrome that keeps it from getting rusty. I would give the Antimicrobial Dish Drainers 100 stars if I could.

We really like this drainer .... it's sturdy, heavy and holds a lot. I've seen some of the reviews regarding rust spots, so here's a hint. As soon as you receive the rack, go to Wal Mart or Lowe's, etc and buy a can of clear gloss polyurethane spray (about 5 bucks). Pull off the little plastic feet and give the rack a good even (but light) coat. Allow to dry at least one whole day, then replace the little feet and use. The polyurethane will prevent any moisture from reaching the metal, so no rust. This problem is the only reason I rated this 4 instead of 5 stars.
