5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant space saver, particularly for high cabinets, March 22, 2007
By
My spice collection is extensive and with very high kitchen cabinets, I would either have to commit myself to using a step stool every time I wanted to cook, or relegate the majority of my spices to an unusable (and unreachable) part of the kitchen.

These convenient pull-down racks are amazing. They attach to the shelf, and pull out/pull down over the edge of the shelf and down into reachable space. Every bottle is easily viewed because the rows are just the right height, and even the very last row of the very highest rack is now accessible without the use of a ladder.

It installs easily and glides smoothly, protecting the bottles against potential breakage.

This is a great find!

4.0 out of 5 stars Directions Could Use More Detail, Otherwise It's GREAT!, July 23, 2010
This review is from: Rubbermaid Pull Down Spice Rack
I bought this product at Wal-Mart (for $15 cheaper than it's sold on Amazon) and I LOVE it! My biggest snag with it was that the instructions for installing it had only 3 basic steps, which I had to use a little trial and error before getting it right. Two hours later, and about 6 extra holes drilled than anticipated, my swinging spice rack was in business!

Tips to hopefully make your installation experience a little easier:

**Measure first (obviously) but in my experience with trying to measure my holes before drilling, it was a little tough because the brackets are hard to keep in place until they're actually screwed into place. I suggest having a friend handy to hold the brackets while you swing the rack to examine the range of motion, and while you pencil in your drill-holes. (Would have SAVED me at least 30 minutes!)

**DON'T affix the brackets all the way in the back of your cabinets. The rack will swing completely out if you position the brackets about halfway between the front and the back of the cabinets. I found when I positioned the rack all the way in the back that it didn't swing out all the way, and it also sat at a strange angle inside the cabinets. Although at first I thought it wouldn't fit all the way unless I positioned it all the way in the back, I was wrong, forgetting that the position of the hinges allows the rack to swing back as far as I'd like it to.

**Keep in mind if your cabinets have a frame or an edge on the right or the left that you'll want to move the brackets inward to make way for the slightly protruding wire on the top rack. (For my cabinets, there was about a 3/4 inch edge, so I had to measure a few times to get it right.

**The brackets have EIGHT different holes that the "extended wires" can fit in to. The BACK "extended wires" should go in the TOP two holes in the BACK. (The BOTTOM TWO holes in the BACK are unused) The FRONT "extended wires" should go in the BOTTOM two holes in the FRONT. (The TOP TWO holes in the FRONT are unused) (The picture included in the directions appears as though there are EIGHT extended wires and it misleadingly appears that they should go into all eight holes.) There are actually only FOUR "extended wires" on the spice rack, and the angled position allows for the swinging motion and proper positioning in the cabinet.

**Also the directions say that a drill is "optional" I guess this all depends on what type of material your cabinets are made out of, and how much you want to attempt to wrestle with a screwdriver. I found that the screws included stripped VERY easily and that my cabinets were made of very sturdy material, so I pulled out the drill to save myself the elbow grease. The drillbit I used was 1/8 size. Any smaller than that and the screws still stripped a good bit.

I'd say the product was worth the work as far as how easy it is now to access my spice collection AND the countertop space it saves me! (But I'm in no hurry to ever have to repeat the installation process should I ever move to a new place) Hope you enjoy this product as much as I do!

4.0 out of 5 stars So great, January 25, 2008
I bought these yesterday and went home to see how they would work in my cabinets. They are great. The only thing is they mounting hardware is tricky and directions not to clear on where to line up the holes. But when I figured that out worked out fine. Great product. I love how it swings down so you can reach and get what you want without knocking over five things reaching into yur spice cabinet.
