Brilliant space saver, particularly for high cabinets,
By WhyHelloThere (Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews These convenient pull-down racks are amazing. They attach to the shelf, and pull out/pull down over the edge of the shelf and down into reachable space. Every bottle is easily viewed because the rows are just the right height, and even the very last row of the very highest rack is now accessible without the use of a ladder. It installs easily and glides smoothly, protecting the bottles against potential breakage. This is a great find!

Directions Could Use More Detail, Otherwise It's GREAT!,

I bought this product at Wal-Mart (for $15 cheaper than it's sold on Amazon) and I LOVE it! My biggest snag with it was that the instructions for installing it had only 3 basic steps, which I had to use a little trial and error before getting it right. Two hours later, and about 6 extra holes drilled than anticipated, my swinging spice rack was in business!Tips to hopefully make your installation experience a little easier: **Measure first (obviously) but in my experience with trying to measure my holes before drilling, it was a little tough because the brackets are hard to keep in place until they're actually screwed into place. I suggest having a friend handy to hold the brackets while you swing the rack to examine the range of motion, and while you pencil in your drill-holes. (Would have SAVED me at least 30 minutes!) **DON'T affix the brackets all the way in the back of your cabinets. The rack will swing completely out if you position the brackets about halfway between the front and the back of the cabinets. I found when I positioned the rack all the way in the back that it didn't swing out all the way, and it also sat at a strange angle inside the cabinets. Although at first I thought it wouldn't fit all the way unless I positioned it all the way in the back, I was wrong, forgetting that the position of the hinges allows the rack to swing back as far as I'd like it to. **Keep in mind if your cabinets have a frame or an edge on the right or the left that you'll want to move the brackets inward to make way for the slightly protruding wire on the top rack. (For my cabinets, there was about a 3/4 inch edge, so I had to measure a few times to get it right. **The brackets have EIGHT different holes that the "extended wires" can fit in to. The BACK "extended wires" should go in the TOP two holes in the BACK. (The BOTTOM TWO holes in the BACK are unused) The FRONT "extended wires" should go in the BOTTOM two holes in the FRONT. (The TOP TWO holes in the FRONT are unused) (The picture included in the directions appears as though there are EIGHT extended wires and it misleadingly appears that they should go into all eight holes.) There are actually only FOUR "extended wires" on the spice rack, and the angled position allows for the swinging motion and proper positioning in the cabinet. **Also the directions say that a drill is "optional" I guess this all depends on what type of material your cabinets are made out of, and how much you want to attempt to wrestle with a screwdriver. I found that the screws included stripped VERY easily and that my cabinets were made of very sturdy material, so I pulled out the drill to save myself the elbow grease. The drillbit I used was 1/8 size. Any smaller than that and the screws still stripped a good bit. I'd say the product was worth the work as far as how easy it is now to access my spice collection AND the countertop space it saves me! (But I'm in no hurry to ever have to repeat the installation process should I ever move to a new place) Hope you enjoy this product as much as I do!

I would buy four of these if they would fit in the cabinets where I keep my spices and oils and other cooking and baking supplies. Unfortunately, it appears it only comes 13.5" wide and my non-dishes cabinets all have openings of 9". I sure hope Rubbermaid, or someone, starts manufacturing in more than one size!

My sister had one of these and I loved it so much on a visit that I bought two. I'm a chef and need all the space I can get in my apartment. I wish they held a few more spices, but they are very convenient. There's even space behind the rack to keep extra spices. By far this is the best spice rack on the market.

I have full-frame cabinets, and this rack gets caught on the frame when I try to pull it out. I will have to install with shims under the mounting brackets to raise the rack. It's annoying, but will hopefully be fine.On another note, this shipped from The Storage Store, and it took twice as long to arrive than expected. The item shipped on the day that I was originally told it would arrive, then took a week to get here. It wouldn't have been so annoying if I hadn't been originally misled.

I love this product! The only tricky part about it is the installation. Fortunately my husband is very handy and got it placed in no time. However if you don't have a mechanically inclined person around, this product could be difficult. There are no instructions, just a picture which for some is not enough. I love now that I can see all of my spices and they pull down for easy access, and in my opinion makes it totally worth it

Perfect spice storage solution and a solid product,
This review is from: Rubbermaid Pull Down Spice Rack
I spent an insane amount of time researching online for storage options for my 50+ spices and these pull down racks are definitely the best option I've found. They were priced around fifteen dollars each online at Lowes, where I purchased b/c they offered shipping. I can fit around 27 or 28 spices in one rack, by placing them in a zig-zag row, instead of a straight row. I have various kinds of spice jars....tall/short, plastic, glass, McCormick, Penzey's, etc, and these racks hold all of them. They feel sturdy when I lower them, and can be left hanging down completely independently. As to the installation, my husband struggled a bit with the bracket placement. He initially put them in as far back in the cabinet as possible, but the rack wouldn't lower all the way, so he had to move it closer to front (our cabinets are 11" deep). Also, because of the height of this rack, I had to raise the shelf above the rack by an inch or two. This meant I lost some height on the shelf directly above the spice rack shelf, but I just rearranged my cabinets and put shorter items on that shelf. Other than that, I'm really happy with this product. If it came in stainless steel, it would be better looking. Also, I have pictures I could share if requested; pls comment on this review.FYI, if you're on a quest, here's a rundown of other options I tried: I originally thought I wanted to go with magnetic tins, until I learned that sunlight isn't good for spices, and also realized how costly and imposing it would be. Then I thought cabinet door-mounted racks were an option, until I realized that wouldn't work with my cabinets. The Super Spice Stack was also considered, but I read reviews that made it seem poorly made of flimsy plastic, and it seemed to lack flexibility as to the number of spices it could hold. I finally settled on these Rubbermaid racks. |
