5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tool Set
This is my second Rubbermaid Portable Tool Kit. The first one worked so well I wanted a second one for the office. This kit contains all the normal tools that could be expected to handle normal tasks but don't be taken in by the 56 pieces. Only a few of those pieces actually count.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tool quality is OK. Case is OK. Not too hot for the price
I guess this set must be marketed at the kind of person who's kind of clueless about tools. You know: "I don't know what a Mac or a SnapOn is, and I don't know Craftsman from Craftmaster but I know the best plastic containers in my kitchen are made by Rubbermaid!"

Alrighty then. Well, then you know to expect that the quality of this set will be decent. And...

While this is NOT an all inclusive mechanics tool kit, it serves its purpose very well. I bought this for my wife for Christmas, and she loves it!!. Perfect to keep in the kitchen drawer. Has all the basic tools needed to complete minor repairs in the house... from picture hanging to putting together a childs toy, its great. Keeps everything in one place, tools are decent quality, and the case has room for additional items.

Good, sturdy, essential tools, that come housed in an exceptionally sturdy, highly portable and attractive carrying case. The marketing in the product description unnecessarily inflates the value by touting its 56 pieces (the fluff being nothing more than picture hangers, brads and wood screws!); it's a great kit without that lameness. Outstanding buy.

Alrighty then. Well, then you know to expect that the quality of this set will be decent. And it is. Just. Not great. Nope, if you go down to Sears and get any of the same tools with the Craftsman name on them, they'll be better than their counterparts in this set. Or go to any decent department store with a tool department, and you'll find Stanley tools, which are at least as good as these, and probably cheaper.

Now, these tools do come in a spiffy little case. You can find the same types of tools in an almost as spiffy case at those same, aforementioned, department stores. But this one may be a bit spiffier. So if that's of prime importance to you, then maybe this set has your name on it. But I don't really understand why you'd value the case over the tools.

Bottom line: Adequate tools in a spiffy case, at a price you can better at your local department store. Nothing much to get excited about here.

I keep these tools in my work office. We have video/media specialists, legal and administrative types, policy makers, managerial and elected officials in my area. I am constantly amazed at how many times this tool set gets used. The video folks have their own tool kit, but frequently they come and borrow a specific device within this kit. The handy case ensures all are returned and the tools are of adequate capability. Good deal generally.

Mostly everything you need for small jobs. Could use a needle nose pliers and a small adjustable wrench but it keeps you from running to the large tool box in the garage for small jobs and last minute requests especially late at night.

This is a decent small set. I bought one a while back for my college-bound daughter.

It would be nice if they could be HONEST about what you are getting: SEVEN tools, one cheap fabric case, and "48-piece fastening set" = 56 "tools". Puh-leeeeese!

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly Made, January 15, 2007

I didn't expect heavy duty construction, but I did expect the screw bits to be well-made enough to put together Ikea furniture. Sadly, the screwdriver was not even up to this task. These are more like a kid's first tool set than anything else.

I have carried tools in the back of my car for years (my Dad insisted - Thank you dad!). I kept them in a plastic box and they would always be jumbled up so I had to dig around to get to what I needed. This handy carrying case is very sturdy and keeps all the tools handy. The tools included are all the basics you could need for any type of emergency (wrench, vice grip, needle-nose pliers, hammer, etc.). The only additions I put in it were a regular pair of pliers, two small baggies of assorted picture hangers and screws/nuts/bolts, and a roll of electrical tape.

This is an excellent idea for someone starting out for the first time in an apartment/home or going off to school.

I believe it is deserving of the five-star rating and recommend it highly.

I bought this because I needed a tool kit the could handle the small day-to-day stuff -- hanging pictures, minor repairs, etc. It includes all the basics in a single handy storage case that fits easily in a kitchen drawer or on the shelf in the utility closet -- easier to get to than a fancier toolkit stored in the garage.

This is clearly not intended to compete with the high-end tool kits used by mechanics or cabinet makers. It really is for use in the home for light tasks. And for that purpose, it succeeds very well. The quality is what you'd expect from Rubbermaid. I like the fact that the handle of the screwdriver is a little larger and "cushier" -- I have arthritis in my hands, and this is far more comfortable than the Stanley screwdrivers I keep in the garage. I purchased mine during a Friday Sale event, and consider it a bargain.
