3.0 out of 5 stars It's a good thing....right?
I purchased this puzzle, thinking I would have it finished by the time the 5 hour drive back home was over. Yeah right. I fell asleep while I was turning it. No, not becuase it was boring, but becuase I was making no progress and I got so tired. My guy friends had to pry it out of my hands after i fell asleep so they could play with it...because it is so...

Back in the day, like 1981 or 1982 when this "game" 1st came out, Me and my fellow Jr. High friends all ran out to the local toy stores to get the Cube (there were no Nintendos and Playstations back then). After a while (a long while, like months) we had all figured out how to solve it and we lost them amongst all the other games we had. About 8 years ago I saw one laying around, so I picked it up. It took me a while, but I solved it again and kept the cube. Funny thing is this little thing is so addictive I constantly tinker with it, about once a month I let my kids mess it up so I can solve it and stay sharp on the technique (there is a technique, once you figure it out). When they get older I want them to learn how to solve it and think it out. It is the kind of toy this generation needs desperately but will probably never catch on again in light of computers, playstations and X-Box's. I would highly reccomend the Cube to anyone 10 years or older. The only reason I knocked durability is because the newer versions of the cube seem stiff to turn, I remember the ones we bought back in the early 80's were much easier to turn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bought just to see it solved, November 16, 2002

I bought this thing because a guy at work claimed he could solve it in under a minute. I called his bluff. He did solve it in under a minute.

He did point out to me that the stickers are kinda cheepo. I do have to agree. I played with it for a few weeks. But I never can get to far or he will wander by and solve it for me. However after about a month of tinkering with it the stickers started to peal off. The color part is still there but the protective part of the sticker is rolling back.

I was able to dig up a older one (about 2nd gen). Its stickers have yet to peal off and its 18 or so years old!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy but useless with stickers, January 4, 2003
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

Frankly, this toy is junk. If you really use it, the stickers fall off in two weeks. If you oil it to make it easier to use, the stickers fall off in about a day. Too bad. The manufacturers killed this really great toy, which WAS the perfect introduction to abstract algebra for kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Popular Again..., May 26, 2007
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

The Rubik's Cube is making a huge comeback. Middle school and high school kids are solving it now faster than ever.

Buy a Rubik's Cube and learn how to solve it. It is life changing!!! These really jumped up in price from just last week, probably due to high demand, but it's a small price to pay because seeing people's expressions when I solve it is priceless. Today when kids are obsessed by video games, computers, TV, and movies, the Rubik's Cube is a great escape. What are you waiting for?

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Intriguing!!!, December 13, 2003

The Rubik's Cube is a neverending puzzle. Once you know how to solve it in one way, you find multitudes of other ways to solve it. If you are stuck on a Rubik's Cube, look on the net, there are lots of sites that teach you how to solve the cube. I recommend the layer-by-layer method for beginners. It is a very challenging puzzle, and I highly recommend you to attempt at it.

I purchased this puzzle, thinking I would have it finished by the time the 5 hour drive back home was over. Yeah right. I fell asleep while I was turning it. No, not becuase it was boring, but becuase I was making no progress and I got so tired. My guy friends had to pry it out of my hands after i fell asleep so they could play with it...because it is so addicting...for the first week you have it. But I DO NOT recommend this for kids under...10 becuase it is difficult. After you can't solve it in 3 weeks, you will throw it in your trunk, discusted...but come back a day later and find yourself twisting on it. But, the bottom line is, if you are a compulsive person who had to have everything perfect, DO NOT buy this item. It will drive you nuts when you cannot complete it. If you are a relativly intelligent person, who is very patient, by all means, get it. Just keep it away from small kids, they will never fix it once is is jumbled. Oh, and by the way, my cube sits here next to me as I type this, haunting me with its colors, still jumbled up everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars held up to expectations, November 10, 2006
This review is from: Rubik's Cube (Toy)
i was kinda uneasy hearing how all the stickers had fallen off everybody elses cubes, but i went ahead and got it anyway and lucky enough mine has been holding up fine. I don't use it excessively however, i might just pick it up and tool around with it for a half an hour some days but so far all the stickers are in their corect positions and i see no sign of fading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its good for beginners, but NOT FOR SPEED-CUBING!!!, February 4, 2005
A Kid's Review
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rubik's Cube (Toy)
I think this specific Rubik's Cube is good, but I don't reccommend it for speed-cubing. Sometimes the faces are hard to turn, and the stickers aren't of best quality, but it is good for beginners. I have one of these, but when I become good at cubing I will buy a better-quality one that is made for speed. Also, do not buy the imitation cubes (such as ones you can get from the Flea Market), because they are bad quality.

If you are not going to dedicate your time to learning the algorithms (sequences) needed to solve this, I do not reccommend to buy ANY Rubik's Cube, because you will become very frustrated in a short period of time, and probably end up cheating to solve it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifetime to solve... or 20 minutes to conquer, March 5, 2003
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rubik's Cube (Toy)
Well... I first picked up one of these tricky toys when i was nine or ten, and back then it seemed that only random rotations of the cube could somehow make it all fall together. Nowadays, I've learned that there is SOME order in the world and the Rubik's Cube is a perfect example of it. I love figuring out how to put a color in a certain spot, and putting the whole thing together. Not only do i feel like a genious when it's done, but so does everyone else. It's a great toy, and one can spend a lifetime conquering it, or a day mastering it.
