This review is from: Ruby and the Booker Boys #2: Trivia Queen, 3rd Grade Supreme (Mass Market Paperback)
In RUBY AND THE BOOKER BOYS: Trivia Queen, 3rd Grade Supreme, Ruby wants to make a name for herself at Hope Road Academy. Her older brothers are very popular for various reasons. Marcellus is multitalented, Tyner is very smart, and Roosevelt is the school prankster. Trying to find her special little niche is hard at Hope Road Academy. Her classmates know she can sing, but she wants them to know a little more. When she learns there is going to be a televised trivia contest on animals at the school, she is elated because she has been studying trivia for the last three years. The winner will receive season passes to the zoo for their entire grade level. But, the contest isn't open to third graders. As Ruby seeks to raise the consciousness of her teacher and the school's principle to get them to change the rules to include the third grade, she learns Marcellus and Tyner will be representing their own classes in the contest. Once the principle decides to allow her to participate, the contest becomes very serious at home, as well as at school. Which Booker will be the winner?

Derrick Barnes captures the hearts and minds of young readers with the very colorful Ruby Marigold Booker in this second book of the Ruby and the Booker Boys series. Readers will be able to clearly see how Ruby handles conflict and challenges that are common for this age group. Barnes cleverly writes to entertain, as well as educate young people. The illustrations by Vanessa Brantley Newton portray the essence of the characters and continue to be a brilliant addition to this series. I am looking forward to reading future installments.

My 6 year old really liked the book. Its a challenge for a 6 yr old.. so perhaps 7 or 8 yrs would ve been more suitable.

Great Book. My kids are still going around asking everyone trivia questions. They read the book to me aloud with no problems and enjoyed every minute. Great Job Derrick! Thank you for thinking of people like me with three beautiful black girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, November 21, 2008
This review is from: Ruby and the Booker Boys #2: Trivia Queen, 3rd Grade Supreme (Mass Market Paperback)
Trivia Queen, 3RD Grade Supreme (Ruby and the Booker Boys Series #2) is a great book. Since my daughter was not excited about reading like I would have liked I decided to start a kid's book club for her and her friends about a year ago. They have read many books and right now they are thoroughly enjoying the Booker Boys Series. We are about to begin the 3rd book in the Series called the Slumber Party Payback. Along with our next book club we will have a slumber party for the girls....anything to promote a love for reading. My daughter and friends now enjoy reading and they really seem to identify with the characters in Mr. Derrick Barnes' books. I'm hoping once we finish this series we can find more books like his for our girls. The girls came up with the name "RED HOT Readers Book club." As a mother of a 10 year old this didn't set well with me but once they came up with what it stood for I was ok with it:-) Read Enjoy Discuss Highly Observant Thinkers.
