Book Description

Sydney Myers has been through several failed relationships in the past year, in addition to several other trauma's, and is now giving up on finding her knight in dented armor. When her boss sends her to Ruby Lake, a small, rural town in northern Wisconsin, the last thing she was looking for was love at first sight, not to mention a place in the world where she finally fits. Add in her city-savvy best friend, a jealous ex-girlfriend, a famous father, and a coffee shop full of off-the wall characters, and it becomes more challenging for Sydney to manage than a spinning plate competition.

When disaster strikes close to home, Sydney is left with the unbearable choice of her family, or the life she has always dreamed of. Come with Sydney on her journey and laugh, cry and rediscover why some choices are not really choices at all, they are simply fate.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Ruby Lake was my first try at a full-length novel. I learned much through the process. I took writing classes prior to starting it, went to conferences, read many, many books on the craft of writing and most importantly: I wrote. I wrote late at night after my children went to bed, on the weekends while the kids were gone at friends houses, or anytime I could find a few quiet moments in which I could put words onto the screen. I wrote in my head at work, and sometimes jotted down ideas on post-it notes while I was out and about. This was my first labor of love, and I'm thrilled so many have enjoyed this and it's follow up: A Wedding in Ruby Lake.
You can find me on Facebook and Twitter, if you so desire. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for all your support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mark Twain wit & humor in 2011 June 10, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A wonderful fun read comedic love story.Filled with quirky characters that will keep you chuckling and page turning to see what happens next. There is even a love to hate character masterly portrayed. If you are a fan of Northern Exposure or Lake wobegon you will enjoy this read. Ms. Willis brings to life the small town charm of America and weaves the interactions of its characters in a masterful blend, reminding this reader of the genius, wit & humor of a modern day reincarnation of Mark Twain.Anyone with a sense of humor, guys as well as gals will enjoy the adventures found in Ruby Lake. This reader is looking forward impatiently for more upcoming adventures of the Ruby Lake gang.

3.0 out of 5 stars A cute love story! September 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Ruby Lake is one of those books you read when you need a pick me up, something to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I think it's even the kind of situation that I fantasized about happening to me when I was younger and single.

Sherrill Willis did a fantastic job of not making the little things too obvious. I was surprised by the match ups in the book, she did not choose to put the most obvious characters together and I liked that. While the book really follows Sydney's relationship, the author leaves me with questions about other relationships in the book, good thing there is a second book, Ineed to find out what's up!

The off-the wall characters in the coffee shop were some of my favorites. All the ladies have a good sense of humor and they would do anything for each other. They gather and share their stories, laughing with each other, crying with each other, offering the support that only friends can really give.

Sydney is a strong and independant woman (who doesn't love a character like that!) who seems to be able to keep things under control until disaster strikes and I can't help but feel bad for her, can't a girl get a break!! Her luck with men has never seemed to be very good and while she is great at her job, she needs more. When she finally finds more and is working her way to being happy, she gets knocked down.

It's really hard to catagorize this book because at times I felt like it was written for college age or older, but then other times, I felt like it was more young adult. Overall it was a great read and I would definitely recommend it to someone who is looking for a "make you feel the warm and fuzzies" kind of book. It has a little friendship, love, and just enough drama to keep you reading more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lakes, Bears and Hun, Oh My!! June 10, 2011

Ruby Lake the first book by author Sherrill Willis is truly a delightful read. I loved getting to know Sydney, Illana, Zeke, Alex, the women at the Stay A While Coffee shop and all the others in Ruby Lake, WI (even Attila the Bun). Anyone from the "city" who has found themselves in small town America, even for a short while, can relate to Sydney's observations and at times culture shock. The wit and repartee between the characters had me laughing out loud many, many times. The characters are well written and the story seamlessly flows to keep you turning the page until you are done and left wanting more of them!! Can't wait to read the second in this trilogy!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Time Worth Losing July 3, 2011
By Felicia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It's been awhile that an author could keep me so rooted in one-spot that I actually lost time. I found myself utilizing my given work breaks just because I couldn't wait to get home to pick up where I left off! Sherrill takes you through so many different emotions with characters who are easy to connect with. Free-time is so rare and precious these days, I have no doubt anyone who reads Sherrill Willis',Ruby Lake will agree - it was time worth losing!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very predictable.
The story was very predictable, the bedroom scenes were unecessary, and seemed to only be included to appease readers who expect sexual content.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's ok
Seems like there were some loose ends that were left dangling. I feel like some of the characters were not developed enough.
