Biography

Formed in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1989, the alternative pop band the Dambuilders originally comprised vocalist/bassist Dave Derby and guitarist Eric Masunaga, both formerly of the Exactones. Shortly after forming, the duo recorded a demo, dubbed A Young Person's Guide, which mysteriously made its way to Europe, where it landed at the offices of the Berlin-based label Cuacha; with only minor remixing,… Read more in Amazon's The Dambuilders Store

4.0 out of 5 stars The band at their peak, October 21, 2002
By "davey_wavey" (Australia) - See all my reviews
In my humble opinion Ruby Red stands as the finest work produced by this fine band. Why ? The songs are excellent, and delivered with all the grit, spit, verve and energy that the band were famous for delivering.

It's more polished than Encendedor, and more of a true, 'live' Dambuilders album than Against the Stars, and hence, in my opinion, the disc that delivers the sound of a band at the height of their talents.

The CD takes the listener on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. From the cranking "Smooth Control" with its awesome intro, to the oh-so-sweet "Drive By Kiss", "Lazy Eye" (which Dave, the singer, apparently has one of), to my favourite, "Drown", various styles, and emotions are explored, and delivered in true Dambuilders style.

3.0 out of 5 stars fairly solid., November 29, 2005
while this album does contain a large quantity of good songs, it's still not as well written or exciting as "Encendedor"..and isn't as adventurous as "Against the Stars". my least favorite of the three, but still a fairly good album.
