About the Author

Melody Miller's first fabric line, Ruby Star Rising for Kokka, was released in the fall of 2010 with great reception. Her sixth Ruby Star line will appear in the spring of 2013. Melody lives in Atlanta, GA, in picturesque Grant Park with her amazing photographer hubby, two charmingly quirky children, and one silly Bichon Frise.
Allison Tannery studied journalism at the University of Georgia,  and though that career track lost its luster upon graduation, she never got over wanting to write. Now she is, very gratefully, a budding author. She lives just outside of Atlanta with her husband, four children, and one perfectly respectable dog.

This book has lots of great ideas in it!

For Christmas this year, I felt so good about using them to package clothing, etc. instead of buying gift boxes.

Some of the projects are so simple, I think I might actually get my craft supplies back out!

I am not a crafty person by nature, but I am addicted to this book! Not only is it beautiful and easy to follow, I also love the anecdotes given with each idea. What a great way to connect with readers! I do not understand the review which calls the book "sophomoric" and "tweeny." I find it incredibly clever, written for people with a sense of humor. My teenage daughters love the book as much as I do, as its out-of-the-box, nontraditional take on crafts and wrapping is enticing for readers of all ages. The reviewer's dig toward the references to chardonnay and margaritas was unnecessary (and misspelled). These writers are genius, and I hope there is a sequel...I'm sure it will be just as much fun as this one is.Ruby Star Wrapping: Creating Packaging to Reuse, Regive, and Relove

When I first saw Ruby Star Wrapping, I almost giggled. A whole book dedicated to gift wrapping and unique packaging seemed like something that I had dreamed up. Fortunately for me, and other gift wrap and craft fans, Ruby Star Wrapping is far from a whimsical day dream. This book is truly amazing!

Packed with beautiful full color photos and creative twists on traditional gift wrap, this is the perfect gift for your favorite craft lover. Using cloth, paper, ribbon, and unique flourishes, you will be able to wrap any little thing you fancy. There are also clever projects, such as a pretty picture keeper, a cloth envelope, and a beautiful tote bag, all of which are sure to fill your days with fun.

One of my favorite things about this book is that many of the projects focus on using and reusing in order to maximize your resources. Also, none of the projects are too complicated. With templates, examples, and step-by-step directions, this is a really fun and engaging book, sure to give you hours of enjoyment.

This is just fantastic. Crafty folk, beginners to this niche pastime, and people who love a thoughtfully designed, elegant, and comprehensive book will be infatuated with this beautiful read. This has everything from cookie recipes to instructions on creating a wine bottle gift-wrapping that doubles as a gorgeous and decorative hand towel-- that dresses up your refrigerator handle-- and everything in between. The ideas in this book are inspired, simple, and just downright COOL, thus propelling being thrifty and conservative into a wonderful new light. Family members seeking to pass down knowledge pertaining to sewing, baking, and more will find this book to be an invaluable tool, combining things like the necessary trade skills of yesteryear and the exhilaration of creating something attractive, modern, and completely awesome. It does all of this while providing a great bonding experience, bridging any potential generational gaps. Any skill-set will find this easy to utilize (you don't have to be a seamstress or professional craftsman). The projects in this book are not only affordable but you probably already have most of the supplies you need for them packed away in the back of your closet or taking up space in storage in your attic or basement. Trust me, you'll never look at a button down plaid shirt or Chinese food takeout box quite the same way anymore. Not to mention, the photography and layout are exquisite, and the quirky stories and excerpts in this book make it a real personable experience allowing a connection with its creators that feels warm and genuine. Miller and Tannery hit a real homerun with this one! I plan on it adorning my bookshelf and crafting table for years to come and can't wait to begin utilizing it with ALL of my family. Do yourselves a favor and get this for yourselves, or gift it to those loved ones this holiday season while its still at this fantastic price... almost half off the cover!

I found this book to be a wonderful resource for reusing things, learning to make with what I already have and not spending so much money on a gift bag when I can make something more beautiful and meaningful for less (or even nothing!). The illustrations are pure eye candy. The instructions are clear. I look through this book sometimes just for the treat of seeing so much beauty and to gather inspiration.

Excellent! This is a very timely book. It starts out with the author's frustration in throwing away lots of beautiful wrapping paper at Christmas and other holidays. She then describes many alternatives to this wasteful and bad-for-the-planet way of giving gifts with some very creative permanent wrapping skills. The reciever can reuse the wrapping, and sometimes the wrapping is more lovely than the gift itself!
