Jerry Goldsmith's best composition?,
This review is from: Rudy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
Rudy. Written by Jerry Goldsmith in 1993, this score is probably one of his best scores yet. Using a mix of brass, piano, and percussion, this is a gorgeous soundtrack with a peaceful tune, yet very complex. Using the flute has the primary intrument, and the piano as the secondary intrument, this soundtrack is for all who enjoy peaceful, beautiful, and enlightening music. Although much of the music is slow and quiet, tracks such as "Take us out" are very inspirational, and yet again, not tense. Every single track on this CD is worth listening to, so do not hesitate to buy it! This soundtrack is often compared to Jerry Goldsmith's "Hoosiers", and is much the same style. If you have never heard this music before, then your best chance is at the beginning of an NFL football game. Since the movie Rudy is based on football, it has become popular with NFL advertising. This music has a much different style from "The Ghost in the Darkness", but then again, probably a better score. Even the movie itself is almost as good as the score!

"Rudy, Notre Dame an inspirational score...Jerry Goldsmith!",
This review is from: Rudy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This is not just another sports story, human interest is the theme, and football is the game. Director David Anspaugh takes this to the highest plain...many people are involved in Rudy's life and he touches each one of them, just as he's about to do now...and Jerry Goldsmith's score (one of his best) puts you in that very sensitive and caring mood.Goldsmith is a master of melody with shades of heartfelt feelings, not to mention he can swing the other way and give "dig your heels in" percussion, brass and power. From the opening track "MAIN TITLE", simply a sweet and beautiful theme, interwoven with musical underscoring in every cue. Many, not all scores can really get inside your head ~ "The Thorn Birds" (1983), by Henry Mancini comes to mind, he was one of the first composers to really give you melody within a score, complete and full, lots of heart and sincerity. Goldsmith proves without a doubt he's more than capable...just listen to "WAITING", slowly building with wind instruments, strings blending with tubular bells and brass answering the call..."TO NOTRE DAME", the irish will love this warm and tender almost sublime melody, the main theme once again faintly appears, you're drifting thoughts of the many students who previously occupied the halls of this great institution of education...Goldsmith's cue is arranged as a suite, combining all themes into one memorable experience. Hats off to ~ Alexander Courage and Arthur Morton (orchestration), Robert Townson (executive album producer for Varese Sarabande), TriStar Pictures and our composer, conductor and producer...the legendary ~ JERRY GOLDSMITH! Total Time: 36:48 on 10 Tracks ~ Varese Sarabande VSD-5446 ~ (1993)

Whenever you need a little pick-me-up or encouragement, just hit play on this CD! The musical arrangements are inspiring and uplifting on their own, but for anyone who has seen the movie, you cannot help but be reminded of the personal courage and determination of Rudy Ruttiger. A great musical score to a great movie, - you will not be disappointed with your purchase.Be advised that the CD does not include the Notre Dame Fight Song that was featured in the ending credits of the movie.

A Great And Touching Job For Goldsmith,
By
This review is from: Rudy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
At first I wasn't sure what king of job Jerry Goldsmith would pull off in a movie called "Rudy". I had no idea who Rudy was. When I first listened to it at a listening station in a music store in Miami, I was touched. I fell in love with it that I immediately bought it.
Goldsmith was truly a master. He knew exactly what notes to use to reach our hearts and tell us what Rudy had to go through from being an average guy to a football hero. The theme from Rudy is simply beautiful -indeed one of Goldsmith's best main titles. And the training music -as heard in tracks like 'Tryouts' and 'Take Us Out' -is completely exhilarating. Jerry Goldsmith was fortunate to work with director David Anspaugh and writer Angelo Pizzo because "Hoosiers" was also one terrific score. "Rudy" is definitely one of the best Goldsmith scores ever. You can't help but feeling exhilarated and touched by such great work.

THE BEST! Period.,

I can't say enough about the richness, majesty, beauty, triumph, and just simply awesome music on this working by Jerry Goldsmith. This was one of the first soundtracks I bought, and liked it so much I started buying other soundtracks as well. I now have over thirty movie soundtracks, and this is still my favorite overall. Various themes from other soundtracks may rate slightly (very slightly if at all) higher than this theme, but in terms of overall beautiful content, this masterpiece takes the cake. Even if you do not generally buy soundtracks, I STRONGLY recommend this CD for you if you like pretty music. I have purchased this soundtrack for many a friend as a gift, and nobody has been disapointed yet. The only things that may bother some people are the length of the soundtrack (Just over thirty minutes), or the somewhat repetitive nature of some of the tracks. But if you really focus of the music, and listen to it, you will be able to detect and identify at a glance each of the different tracks. Bottom line: If you are at all a lover of beautiful music, or movie soundtracks, than this is a MUST HAVE for your collection.

A memorable sports score,
This review is from: Rudy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This little soundtrack is every bit as inspirational as the story of pint-sized Rudy. The music has become so popular that it's often used in trailers and tv spots. Few movies attribute their success to an uplifting score; some are burdened with sappy melodies and others lack the emotional investment of good music. Composer Jerry Goldsmith manages a happy marriage of both extremes, however. His score effectively becomes part of the film without overtaking it; it does what a good score should and deepens the action and characterizations.Overall, the music is light in tone, never oppressive, which would have been an easy and obvious route for a movie about football. My favorite track is the "Main Title," which introduces the musical theme. It is hopeful, inspirational, and ultimately uplifting. Had I not first seen the movie, I could still gather this much about the film. Other tracks, such as "Waiting," "Tryouts," and "The Final Game" convey the spirited and triumphant atmosphere with a chorus of flutes whistling across strong, brassy undertones. I also liked the touch of nostalgia Goldsmith weaves in, cementing the hope and innocence of the story and era on film and CD.

Don't reject this nice score music from Rudy!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Rudy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
For the person who gave this CD one star should not post a review like that again ever. I think this is a great soundtrack. Both Hoosiers and Rudy soundtracks are good and even the movie. If you give Rudy soundtrack one star then you must be on crack. It's the best soundtrack ever. Well, if your not a score music fan then you have a reason to give it one star but why did you bother posting a one star review where there is other people posting it five stars? My favorite track of this soundtrack is The Final Game where the crowds cheer for Rudy. That's the best one. There's nothing wrong with the soundtrack. It's great and also a perfect movie too. So go buy this CD you will like it!

Jerry's lighter side!,

Apart from the beautiful horned out main theme, this album boasts one of the greatest inspiring fanfares you'll ever hear. My wife even likes it, and that's saying something. Ha, HA from her. As a comparison to Hoosiers. Same style but they're uniquely their own. I love both scores, but Hoosiers is the only one of the two movies I like.

One of Goldsmith's best!,

This review is from: Rudy: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
This beautiful movie about a guy who wants to play football at Notre Dame has a score that is very wel suited to it's story. It is one of Godsmith's best works that seems to capture the drama of the movie so well that listening to the music can bring tears to your eyes. The softer tracks reflect the integrity of Rudy's character. In the action oriented tracks the orchestra swells into full power and lets you feel what it is to strive for a dream and make it come true. The story is a simple one and Goldsmith knows as no other composer how to make this theme come alive in our own hearts when we listen to this music.
