5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Nasty
If you think Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy had foul mouths, dig this for sure !

In fact, long before West Coast rap, Rudy was rapping about the hustler's, players and sexual prowess (*I'm purposely trying to keep the language tame here...)except *IMHO* his lack of self absorption made it funny and entertaining. (Many of these rhymes actually came from prison toasts...

3.0 out of 5 stars I ain't lyin'!
This CD contains the original rap monologue "Dolemite" which has established the career of Rudy Ray Moore, known as the Godfather of Rap and King of Party Records. Mr. Moore glides through such classic raps as the "Signifying Monkey" and, the folklore tale "Petey Wheatstraw", also featured on this CD is a longtime favorite "The Great Titanic".

Mr. Moore...

(Many of these rhymes actually came from prison toasts that were passed on from person to person... but he put his own flavor to it and preserved them for posterity.) These albums for sure weren't sold at most stores and definitely weren't played on the radio, but if you were throwing a party, they were a must have !

Rudy Ray Moore's mixture of stand up comedy, "rapping" and all things bad and nasty made him an underground party icon. It was the charactors in many of these "blue" comedy routines, that would eventually evolve into the charactors in his outragous near zero budget action/comedy films which in themselves became classics... among them - - Dolemite, The Human Tornado, Avenging Disco Godfather, Petey Wheatstraw). For sure, he is now a '70s and "players" icon.

I wish I could discuss the content of this album here, but well, let's just say, not while the children are listening.

If you enjoy this CD, I strongly reccomend checking out THE HUSTLER'S CONVENTION (Lightening Rod), stuff by the last poets, hunting down some BLOWFLY, and renting the HUMAN TORNADO (my favorite movie of his) - - then getting your nasty bad self to church.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands-down the funniest raunch act of all time..., November 8, 1999

I first heard Rudy on 8-track when I was a teenager riding up to Northern Michigan for summer hockey camp in 1972. We nearly died lauging at the best flat-down nasty comic in the biz. Redd was on, Richard and Eddie have kept it going, but Rudy Ray Moore was the grandfather - the original and still the best. Check your timidness at the door: Rudy will kill you.

Mr. Moore glides through the rap monologue with perfect timing, which makes him the worlds first comic to take a bold approach in the comedy vein using ghetto expressions in a form of art. Mr. Moore has gained respect from many great rappers and comedians from this CD. Many rappers have sampled and gave lyrical nods to Mr. Moore. Keep on doing your thing. Hail to the king of party records.

Rudy Ray Moore, was the best rhyming man I ever listen to which didn't have much of a choice my brother and husband can recite(Lion & Monkey) certain ones of his poems and you know it's good after all these years they can still remember and brag on themselves as if they were him. Sound exactly like Rudy. We can still appreciate his comedy.

Just as I remember hearing them years ago, Signifying Monkey / Hurricane Annie / Dolemite. Rudy at his best. Rudy Ray had to be the inspiration for later comics, rappers and entertainers.

This record is so funny that you should make sure that you have an empty bladder before listening. Rudy is very clever and I can't understand why he has not gotten the same respect as the late great Redd Foxx or Richard Pryor.

I'm serious here. Rudy Ray is probably the funniest (and most vulgar) comedian I've ever heard. Told mostly through rhymes, Rudy Ray (a.k.a Dolemite) tells stories of pimps, badasses, and lions, and smartass monkies. You've never heard anything funnier than the time the signifying monkey tried (unsucceesfully) to tell the lion what was up. There's also another version of the Titanic that the movie didn't cover. One of my personal favorites was the tale of Petey Wheatstraw the Devi's Son-in-Law, the BADDEST pimp who ever lived.

Known as the "godfather of hip-hop" Rudy Ray Moore was the first comedians to ever use four-letter words in his acts. Though some of his tales get a little formulaic (Petey Wheatstraw and Dolemite are VERY similar), they're nevertheless hilarious and inventive. Just check this out. This is a great party album that you DO NOT want to play for your girlfriend, unless you want to get dumped (trust me).
