It appears Ruffwear has downgraded this coat's materials from ealier versions. I recently bought the orange coat inXS and it is 2inches smaller in the chest than the obsidian coat I already own. The orange coat has piping that is narrower and rougher. It has different and lower quality label tags than the obsidian color coat. The obsidian coat matches size chart at Ruffwear's site. The orange coat's zipper is a weak model, and the fabric about 1/2 thickness of other coat the safety flap under the zipper is constructed differently too. Tags on back of coat, including light loop in different positions, opposite from those on obsidian or green coats.

Close inspection show the purple and granite grey coats are same as orange in construction, but if you look around, you can still find the higher quality obsidian (black & grey) and green versions available. I highly recommend those coats, but not the orange, purple and granite grey. The reduction in quality makes them overpriced and not worth the cost. Shame on Ruffwear for ruining a great product.

First off let me say this is a very nice coat. I love pretty much everything about it in terms of fit, except the back end. It's a little awkward because it does not fit snug on the back but does everywhere else. Had they put an optional drawstring or even little leg loops to hold it down flat, the design would have been much better. For $60, you would think they could have done this. I will have to stitch something similar in so that it really fits proper for outdoor activities. Initially I bought a size large (he wears XL or XXL in pretty much *every* other apparel item)... but remarkably, in this he needed the medium.

Key Measurements: My dog was right on the border between the M and L (although technically in the large range)...I chose large first, and in fact the medium was correct. He is a 70lb Boxer with a 33" Chest (measured around the chest right behind the shoulder blades), 21" Neck and 21" Length (from base of neck to tail). If measuring between shoulder blades in the front, he is 8.5" wide.

The medium fits him with zero issues of bunching around the chest, legs, etc. as most other cuts have that problem (they are often too tight)...this is a great fit and a great cut... if it had some optional straps to secure around the hind legs, this would truly be a 10/10... but without that I give it a 4, since I am going to have to modify it now myself to include this. It's a basic feature that many dog shirts have and for the price I really do think it should have been included.

I bought two of these coats for my Weimaraners. They seem well made, but there is a major design flaw. The holes for the front legs have thick elastic around the edge, and the elastic causes chafing and irritation. After a single 45 minute use, both of my dogs have red, irritated spots on their front legs. The coats are not too small - in fact, they are slightly large on my dogs, and when they are standing still the elastic leg holes are roomy around their skinny legs. The problem arises when they run and play; then the elastic rubs back and forth and chafes. I don't see why the elastic need to be there - the fleece is thick, and stretchy and doesn't look like it would ride up. Now my poor dogs are wearing cone collars to prevent them from licking their raw, sore legs thanks to these stupid coats. I don't know if I can return them seeing as we've used them (once), but I am going to hit the roof if not.

This dog jacket by Ruffwear is perfect for keeping my dog warm in cold weather. I have a Brittany Spaniel who lives indoors that I keep shaved to prevent the spread of quite long puppy hair. When she goes outside in the cold weather, she needs a jacket to keep warm. The (size small) Climate Changer fits her perfectly. She is slightly large for a Brittany, about 20" tall and 41 lbs with a 24" chest. She has a bit of give in the chest area without the jacket being loose, and it fits well around her neck. The tail of the coat reaches almost to the base of her tail. The jacket dries quickly and easily and washes well. She is able to run, walk, and play in it without any difficulty. I have not taken her on a long run in the jacket, as she would most likely overheat, but I would feel comfortable taking her hiking in it. I definitely recommend this jacket if you are looking for a well-made jacket that will stand up to an active dog.

Very high quality fabric, heavy zipper, sizes Small & Xsmall are true to listed measurements.

Easy on & off with the zipper on the side so it won't annoy the tail. There is a flap under the zipper to protect the skin/hair from the zipper, as well as a fabric covering over the zipper end for the same purpose at the neck. The fabric has some stretch and seems pretty durable.

I made the mistake after buying the black (obsidian) model, of buying one of the same size in the newer colors (orange, purple, granite grey) offered elsewhere on Amazon. The newer colors are NOT made of the same thick material, have cheaper zippers, and in the size XS, are almost 2" smaller in chest size. The tags are different, and the "light loop" on the back is not in the same place. At first I thought I had received a knock-off, but the same flimsy coat was on the Ruffwear web site. So be aware that these green & black coats are the superior product.
