On the positive side of things, the boots have great traction and if you make the strap quite tight as it should be they do not move or come off. Sydney has been in a full sprint, in the water, and on rough terrain, not once have they fallen off or twisted. Don't be afraid to really tighten them up.
The reason we got them is because Sydney developed blisters on her pads since we do lots of mountain biking. The boots have solved this issue.
My advice to anyone looking to get the ruffwear boots is to buy the individual sizes for each individual paw. usually the front and rear will each be a different size. Use the measuring chart on the ruffwear website to measure your dogs paws and note if the front differ from the rear.
UPDATE: I got an email from RuffWear following this review, and they asked to replace the boots with a smaller set free of charge, as they believed that they were likely too big.
UPDATE: The smaller boots I received fell off on a test walk around the block on pavement. Ruffwear was kind enough to allow me to return them for store credit.
My dog is a wire fox terrier who will stop at nothing to pursue small furry things under the shed. Sometimes this translates into obsessive mud-slinging episodes that can occur with almost no warning and invariably end in a bath, which no one likes. These boots have prevented countless baths this winter because they basically save him from himself--he won't dig if he's wearing them. No more mud disasters or cracked toenails. It's been a lifesaver!
Even if he doesn't go nuts, they keep him clean when it's wet and muddy, which has been a lot this winter. I brought them with me to my mom's when she was dog-sitting for me and told her to use them. She laughed at them at first, but all I had to do was show her the mud on the bottom of them when he came in and say, "All that would have been on his feet and ISN'T!" She was convinced immediately.
Some reviews I've seen have mentioned that they fall off, which has happened to me too. I'm sure it has to do with foot shape and size, but I will say that I tighten them REALLY tight (there's more than enough room in the forefoot, so don't worry about that) and they have not fallen off nearly as often. Also, get the red instead of the black because if your dog does lose one in the yard, it's way easier to see that way. I've found that even putting on just the front two goes a long way, so since it's a 4 pack it's not the end of the world if one is lost.
Also, read the instructions and be persistent, because your dog will definitely prance around like a weird hackneyed pony for the first several times (it's actually hilarious, as YouTube will show you if your look) but he will eventually get used to them. I promise! My 18 pound wire fox terrier wears the x-small size and it is perfect.

Great purchase!!! I would recommend buying the socks as well, it will help keep the boots on. Also, measure your dog's feet first, they need to be sized correctly. Read morePublished 7 days ago by Andrew Zufall
