Rugby Laws- plain and simple,
By Graeme R. Bullen (Houston, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Rugby: A Player's Guide to the Laws (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. Although only current through 1995, many of the laws are still applicable. What the book does best, is explain WHY the law exists and explain them in the context of the game in very simple terms. Diagrams illustrate certain points very well. Understanding why the law is there makes it so much easier to enforce and play(yes, I'm a referee). Experienced players, new players and definitely referees should be able to learn a great deal from this book. 4 stars of 5, only because it's current through 1995.

Only a few chapters in,

This review is from: Rugby (Print on Demand (Paperback))
I will admit that I am only a couple if chapters in. But before reading those chapters I knew NOTHING about rugby. I have only seen a few minutes of a rugby match (or is it a 'game?' - see, I'm a total rookie)in my whole life but the way every law has been explained so far has painted a wonderful picture. I feel myself grasping the laws of offsides and tackling very quickly. The best thing about this book is it's lack of stuffy, boring language. It is written in a way that your average person can relate to. Language like, "on his duff" and "get the Hell out of there" give it a real world feeling that really makes it easier and more fun to learn. Thanks Derek Robinson!
