Nice quality, but this rail is way too long for the Mini-14. You have to remove the rear sight in order to attach it. Not what I wanted to do! This info should be in the product description so people know that the rear sight has to be removed.

The product seems sturdy offers a wider variety of scope mounting options than using the mini-14 built-in scope mounts.

I purchased this product so I could mount a red dot sight on my mini-14. I can't use the standard Ruger scope mounts because my red dot scope is too large (diameter) and also has the mounts built-in.

However, if you have a newer mini-14, with the rear sight aperture ("peep") and
the target (bull's-eye) built-in sights, then the notch on the underside of the rail will not fit over the rear peep/aperture sight, and it will not fit between the "wings" of the rear sight. I believe, the notch will only fit on the older mini-14's with the folding rear sight.

Your options are either (1) to remove the rear sight first (simply unscrew the screw on the top of the sight that attaches it to the rifle with a small hex head wrench - which Ruger does not include with the rifle), or (2) to cut the rail off so it won't interfere with the rear sight - you'll probably have to grind it off, or take it to a shop that has the right tools.

I chose option 1 because you can't use the built-in sights with the rail installed anyway.

This rail is the perfect scope/sight mounting solution if you are frustrated with the Ruger integral scope rings loosening on the Mini-14. I cut off the aft end of the mount so it clears the rear sight. I also put some blue Loctite on the screws - don't over tighten them. It works great and allows for quickly swapping a scope for a sight and vice versa. You'll have to remove it to go back to the iron sights. I use either a scope or red dot sight, so not an issue.

I mounted one of these on my mini today. It fits very well over the folded ranch rear sight. IT holds nice and tight I have a full size mil dot scope mounted on it. BUY two they are great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works as it should, December 12, 2008

I felt the integral scope mounts on my Mini-14 Target rifle had the scope about 1" too far forward. The NcSTAR mounting rail allowed me to mount the scope back farther where I felt it belonged. Works as it should. It does raise the scope about 1/2" from the original position, but the new position is still fairly low to the bore and is acceptable.

I bought this hoping to be able to install it on my Ruger Mini 14 Target Model. While it does fit, it is impossible to expect any good results from using it. I was able to loosen the rail with just a few slaps of my hand against it. I was afraid to put too much torque on the screws as they felt like they would strip out easily. It does not have dovetails on the bottom of the rail like you find on the bottom of the Ruger Scope Rings. If this was really designed to work with the Ruger Integral Mounts then I don't see it. It has one small half moon stud that attempts to be a dovetail. It needs two to even begin to work. It makes me wonder if the people that made this (I'm guessing PRC) have even seen what the Ruger mounts look like. Save your money and buy something else.

1.0 out of 5 stars had a problem, June 8, 2011

I got this for the mini-14 and upon installation I found one of the mounting screws, the threads on the unit itself were poorly drilled and it essentially is like a totally stripped screw that doesn't seat at all. It's a cheap item, I didn't expect it to be drilled perfectly and with strong metal, but having one of the screw holes just essentially not threaded at all is pain. The screws and the metal of the unit seem cheap and weak. Of course I could send it back but for such a cheap item it's not even worth the hassle or cost of going to the post office to return it. It's made in China like everything else in the world so again I should not have expected any better. It's just a big waste of time. I'll try and make due with a 7 screw mount system until I find a better made brand of scope mount. Oh and I called NCStar and asked if they'd send me a new one but of course their policy is they want the item returned, and it's a big long deal for me to go to the post office (would take over 1.5 hours round trip) so I'm not going to do it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weaver Rail Worked for Ruger PC4, February 9, 2010

This review is from: New Century Nc Star-Ruger Mini 14-Mini 30 Ranch Rifle Weaver Scope Mount (Sports)
This rail mounted without problem to my Ruger PC4. I'm using a holographic dot site, so the rail and site combo leaves the cheek off of the stock when shooting. This takes some getting used to...but in terms of function it worked perfectly.

This NcStar scope mount would not fit my mini 14 right out of the box. I have the tactical version with the ATI stock the rail would not sit flush on the rifle and the locking pin was to long to mount correctly. It took about 30 min of working on the rail itself with a steel file to make a groove big enough to fit over the ATI stock. Then the the mounting clamps would not line up with the half moon grooves witch took more time with the file. All in all it took about an hour of work to make it work and sit correctly I'm still using it with no problems but I recommend spending the extra few bucks on a better quality one that's ready to go out of the box. Still with a little time and patients it "useable"

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice for Mini 14 with flip down sight, August 28, 2011

This review is from: New Century Nc Star-Ruger Mini 14-Mini 30 Ranch Rifle Weaver Scope Mount (Sports)
Read the other reviews and make sure you have the flip down sight type that will work for this install. A fixed peep sight will definitely be in the way. Installed solid onto my Mini-14 with little effort. I used lock tite of course and I believe that is key to this type of mounting being "rock solid". So far so good but I haven't gone out on an all day range trial yet. I'm very happy with the rail. It looks nice. It's well constructed as far as I can tell. I'm satisfied for the price.
