I got the Ratinator at a country store. Landscaping work apparently disturbed some rodent nests and they invaded the house we are remodeling. Using poison was out of the question. We live here with pets and I also wanted to protect local owls. Eating poisoned rodents can KILL owls.

I'd never faced this problem before so I googled basic information. A few days later, I stopped in a nearby hardware store and a clerk told me about the Ratinator. It worked in his stable.

I was patient, baiting with old Corn Pops for a couple of days with all the doors open. Then I closed one door but left the bait door open. That night, mice that had been feasting for two days SLAMMED the cage around to get at their snack! Assured they felt safe with the cage, I finally closed all the doors but the trap door. That night, we caught three invaders. The next day, I cleaned the cage, disinfecting it. Last night, we caught another rodent. I think there will be more. Our terrier might have harassed the cage, scaring off mice. I was told to leave the trap in the same general area until we went a week without catching anything.

If cost is a problem, try the Eaton, J. T. 421CL Multiple Catch Mouse trap, which is much cheaper and has similar methods. I will keep the Ratinator because it's large and it works quite well. It's proven itself to me. If I had more locations to trap, I'd get the smaller Eaton units or something similar. Eaton 421CL Multiple Catch Mouse

This is the most awesome rat trap I've ever had. I've tried hav-a-harts, snap traps, glue boards, poison stations, zappers etc. NOTHING WORKED! With the Ratinator II caught 15 rats in my bird aviary this morning!!!!!! I reset it and caught 2 more. I'm ordering more of these traps for my barn and other aviaries. It is sooooo worth it!

Hate to break it to the seller of this item but a tiny picture on a box isn't going to sell the item to anyone. What are the schematics? Where are the photographs? How about explaining how the thing works in the description? No way I am purchasing this made in China, flimsy item without a clear understanding of how it works. I've purchases others, including the Squirrelinator (which seems to be made by the same company~in China) which I found to be poorly made and insufficient to keep the squirrels inside once they entered the trap. The doors where not weighted, spring loaded or secured once the squirrels entered and all they did was push them up with their noses and walk right back out. No way I can think of purchasing this without sufficient details.

By the way, one very new "excellent" review by the owner of Rugged Ranch, who seem to be one of the few distributors, isn't sufficient t to get myself or anyone else to purchase this time. Come on folks, just give us a halfway decent product, a good description, good photographs, a schematic of the item AND a money-back guarantee if it doesn't work (or more likely falls apart within a month) and we as a consumer MIGHT consider purchasing it.

Also, I contacted a distributor of this product. Seems no one has any photographs of it. I was told the doors were "weighted" but, when I asked with what, and for further details, the distributor went silent. I purchased a "Squirrel-inator" recently and returned it as the doors were not weighted and were "gravity" based.(Squirrels got in but got out nearly as easily) Unfortunately, gravity isn't sufficient taking the light, flimsy flap into consideration where rodents are involved.
