4.0 out of 5 stars A Sweet Regency Romance with a Hint of Danger, August 10, 2009

This review is from: A Ruined Season (Hardcover)
A Ruined Season is not your typical Regency romance. Sophie Greenwood has resigned herself to a life as a spinster after her London season is ruined by her father's risky financial venture. Sophie gets a second chance when she is invited by her cousin Mariah to accompany her during her first season. But she still has the stigma of being penniless to overcome and a brother fighting on the continent to worry about. If Mariah's aunt has her way, she'll have both girls married off by the end of the season to titled and rich gentlemen. But, a surprising suitor in the form of a dashing blue eyed rum and sugar magnate, just might be the one to catch Sophie's eye and her heart. The road to happiness won't be completely smooth however, when a cryptic note from her brother results in a violent stalker who thinks Sophie has what he is looking for. I really liked that Sophie was smarter, more self-sufficient and mouthier than the average historical heroine. At the end I felt like this was more of a novel about her adventure and taking control of her life, rather than a book centered around the romantic relationship which was refreshing.
