Almost no one(that i know) knows about Labrat. Its pretty shocking seeing as how many people love metal bands that fuel their songs with hatred and murderous lyrics. Hailing from London England Labrat's songs deliver fast skin cutting, skull spliting guitars and growling vocals in every song. They may play a few slower riffs in the middle to through you off course but the riffs are every bit as heavy as the fast ones. This is without a doubt an album every metal head should own!

Ok, I will admit that I haven't heard the whole CD. But I recall hearing 2 songs about two or three years ago and well...I just can't say I really enjoyed them at all! It sounded like a helluva lot of noise and I just don't know...I don't get that I suppose.
Perhaps it is arguable that Labrat are looking at Metal from an abstract standpoint and even simplifying it to its core materials. Perhaps they create enjoyment by creating the exact opposite. However, from the 2 songs I heard, I just can't grasp any kind of central concept or derive any pleasure from this "music." Don't go by my star rating: I just don't like this ok? It's not an attack on those who enjoy it. It's just another viewpoint. If you enjoy it, then that's fantastic! That's not the issue here however - I'm just saying that it sounds more like "noise" to my ears. I've heard some pretty noisy bands, some that are not that bad - but Labrat seem to push the definition of "noise" to a new extreme. Maybe I just don't get it. But whatever the case, I cannot give a fully accurate synopsis of the CD. I have no access to it (un)fortunately. I mean, I live in South Africa! I just can't get the CD from a friend or buy it or download without getting a full view of the band. Anyway, I know that groovecore is pretty popular with certain metallers. I haven't delved very deeply into that sect of Metal yet, so I'll be sure to explore it a bit soon enough. But from what I've heard, Labrat's "Ruining It for Everyone" is either too bad or too abstract for me to enjoy it... |
