3.0 out of 5 stars NOT THE SAME, July 19, 2011

The new style mercury free super switch may be good for the envirenment, but not so good for my (almost sunk boat). I have used Rule switches & pumps for over 25 years, and I can tell you, they are TOP OF THE LINE. After over 10 years of service my mercury super switch went bad. I replaced it with the new style, on 5/10. After only 1 year the switch went bad, when I was on vacation out of town. There was heavy rain, and when I got back, I found my boat had 12+ inches of water inside my bildge. The new style switch had failed. I called Rule and they were very nice, and shipped another switch, but told me it would take 3-4 weeks to arrive. Thats when I ordered another one from Amazon. so far so good, and now I have a backup switch in stock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Switch Rules!, June 26, 2011

Another safety upgrade for my ocean boat - one of my bilge pumps went out, and it was the automatic one. So I added new manual pumps, and this switch. It's bigger than I thought, which added a little challenge in its' mounting, but that was overcome. Wiring was easy, with the new pumps and in dash switch (also reviewed). Now I have one pump wired to turn on automatically, or both manually. This switch and the other items gives me a good piece of mind while out fishing for hours, or even camping on the boat overnight. Nothing would be worse than the pump not coming on and the boat being flooded.

I've tested the switch in my driveway by using the garden hose, and flooding my bilge. It turns on exactly as needed, although it took some adjusting of the mounting height so that it would turn *off* at the right time, otherwise while cruising on step it may have run the pumps without any water at the pump.

Overall VERY happy with this switch, although I cannot comment on its' longevity. Hopefully it is buily well enough to last me many years. Only time will tell, and if it fails anytime soon I will come back and edit my review to reflect that (although it does seem to be built well)

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent price on a necessary item, January 14, 2011

Got to have it. Especially if you plan to leave the boat unattended. Prices for these kinds of brand name items on Amazon are the best around, and has me coming back here often for items that I don't need immediately, or that the marina has to order anyways. The switch has not given me any trouble, but it is on my big backup pump and doesn't touch water unless the small lower pump fails to pump fast enough.
