5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful during hurricane Irene June 2, 2011

Review update: now that I've had this device multiple years I can say that it is holding up well. I re-installed it after storing it away for the winter and it' still going strong. I'm really not sure that I even needed to store it for winter in terms of it not surviving freezing temperatures. I just didn't want to lose sight of the hoses and cables under the snow.

Review update: hurricane Irene knocked our power out for a few days. At first it's all fun and games. You get out the board games and the lanterns. You cook on the grill. You get washed up with the water you set aside because you're that kind of prepared, but then you can't really wash your hair. Nothing makes we wound up tighter than not being able to wash my hair. So out to the rain barrell with the solar water pump and bingo - problem solved. (we are so ready for the zombie apocalypse)

Review update: so it has been one more winter now. I left the pump out all winter and started it back up again this weekend. No worries. We are in south eastern pa. I love this tool.

With the solar powered pump it's just like turning the regular hose on. The water pressure is perfect. I love this pump. And no electricity. It's perfect.

My battery has stayed charged since the first day I installed the system. I have never had the battery die. I've run out of water in the rain barrel but I've never had the battery on the pump go first.

Installation was easy but you do have to read the instructions. We needed a screwdriver, scissors, pliers and a drill with a big hole bit. Our barrel had a screen on top but we needed to drill out another hole for the pump to go into.

Everything is plastic so I hope it holds up and lasts. The performance of the unit is just as advertised.

4.0 out of 5 stars RainPerfect Solar Powered Rain Barrell Pump May 23, 2011

I wanted to add another rain barrel (the flowers and vegetables very much prefer rain rather than chlorine laden water) but really did not have the extra time to fill up the watering cans. My wife found this item and got it for me as a present. Of all the products I have purchased over the years that do not live up to their expectations, this is not one of them. After charging the pump, it works exactly like the video. I have it hooked to a 50' hose and am able to use the spray head to water the garden and flowers. My rain barrel holds over 60 gallons and I have drained it dry with the pump still going strong. I am so impressed, I am probably going to get another rain barrel and another pump. The way the solar panel hooks up to the pump, it would not be easy to move the pump from one barrel to another one (the only thing I do not like about the pump).

2.0 out of 5 stars Dissapointed June 10, 2011

My investment in this product was wasted. I recommend using a regular sump pump. The battery takes too long to charge, 8 hrs. The run time on a fully charged battery can be measured in minutes,10-15 minutes. The water pressure was so low that I could not reach my garden 15 feet away unless I unrolled the hose and walked to it.

Dear Cal2, we thank you for purchasing our RainPerfect product and are sorry to hear about your posted issue. We strive to provide the best possible products and support and would like to quickly remedy this situation. To start, please ensure that the power connection between the pump and controller unit is aligned arrow to arrow. If not, the pump will continue to run but only at 70% power. Next, ensure that the pump's filter is free of debris. Lastly, please ensure that you are not using a hose greater than 25' in length. If these suggestions due not satisfactorily resolve your situation, please contact us directly at RainPerfect@itt.com and provide your complete contact details. As we are committed to your satisfaction, we will quickly replace your product under our expressed warranty. Thank you again for your patronage of our Rule Innovation products.
Sincerely, your RainPerfect Team.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product/ Great Idea. August 18, 2011

This pump was easy to install and simple to use. Solar means it doesn't need ane lectrical hook=up also no danger of shock in a wet ennvironment. Good pressure. I have used it with a 40' hose and had plenty of pressure to use a spray nozzle. I bought two additional rain barrels since it made them much easier to use.

The RainPerfect Solar Powered Rain Barrel Pump works great for filling one rain barrel to another 75 ft. away or water my greenhouse with a fine shower head a short distance away. I just love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Solar Powered Rain Barrel Pump is a Back Saver September 3, 2011

No more bending over to fill the watering cans at the bottom of the rain barrel. Now we just push the button and the water streams into the can at the end of a hose. We have also attached a long garden hose to the Solar Pump and watered our hanging plants and our square foot gardens from the rain barrels. The batteries lasted long enough to pump out two 55 gallon rain barrels. It only took one day to fully charge the batteries...in Seattle!

5.0 out of 5 stars So far, it works great June 5, 2011

The Problem: The house we rent doesn't have an outdoor water spigot, so we got a rain barrel. There are no downspouts near the vegetable garden, so we were always carrying watering cans back and forth. That got old fast. This season, I wanted to add an electric pump, but there are no power outlets near the barrel.

The Solution: This solar powered pump. I just installed it today. Set up was easy. There was already a charge in the battery, so it started pumping water right away. The pressure coming out of the 50 ft hose isn't super strong, but it's an appropriate amount of pressure for a small to medium-sized garden (you don't want to powerwash your tomato plants, anyway).

My only concern at this point is longevity. It has a one year "limited warranty," but I'm hoping that this will last for more than just one or two seasons. I'll probably disassemble it in the fall to prolong its life.

1.0 out of 5 stars Fine for 3 months, then wouldn't hold a charge July 28, 2012

I set up a rain collection system, which I love, but it is predicated on being able to pump the water out of the barrels. The RainPerfect Solar Rain Barrel Pump was to be the ticket -- without using electricity! It was great and I felt wonderful about it for three months. It worked perfectly, but, after that, started shutting off as I was using it. I would push the button to re-start it and it would run for a few minutes and shut off again. This happened two times and then it ran perfectly again for about three weeks. Now, starting a month ago, it starts with the button, but shuts off almost immediately with the indicator light showing that it does not have a charge. I've changed nothing about the solar collector and its connection to the pump, but now it seems not to be getting or holding a solar charge. I emailed the company -- about three weeks ago -- and have heard nothing in response. I feel ripped off. Now I'll try to get my money back through the Amazon labyrinth.

Meanwhile, I have full water barrels that I can empty only with a hose kept lower than the barrels!
