A great way to learn astrology,
By Malcolm Mills (Valley Village, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rulership Book (Paperback)
I have been a consulting astrologer for over 25 years and The Rulership Book was one of the first books on the subject I acquired. I have used it again and again over the years and it has proved to be an invaluable resource. The book begins with a list of words for which planetary rulerships are ascribed. The list is quite comprehensive. Then, Bills gives us rulerships by planets and houses, including an appendix of anatomical attributions. While it is a little bit dated now, it is still a wonderful learning tool and I particularly recommend it to beginning students who want to progress quickly in understanding the interaction of the planets with daily affairs.

Invaluable for advanced learners,
By Katerina (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rulership Book (Paperback)
Rex Bills' Rulership Book is basically a collection of 4 lists:
The first one is an alphabetical list of all kinds of nouns, objects, concepts, etc., right next to which is a reference to the planet, sign or house that rules that particular thing. The second one is a listing by planets. It goes through each planet and lists alphabetically all things ruled by that particular planet. The third and fourth lists follow the same line, with listings by signs and houses. In the end of the book, there is also an appendix with special listings, such as bones of the body, muscles, flavors, etc. This is a thorough and excellent compilation of rulerships. If you are a beginner, it may not make much sense to buy such a book, since it doesn't mean that much to know that "isolation" is ruled by Saturn for example, if you can't comfortably read a chart yet. You wouldn't know what to do with information like this. I think it's better suited for advanced learners. If one studies astrology seriously, sooner or later they will definitely need a book with rulership listings, and believe me, currently there are no better books on the subject than this one, even though it was first published in 1971... I use it mostly in special astrological topics, such as vocational and business astrology and I find that it is especially useful in horary and electional astrology.

The Rulership Book - the best!,

This book is an extensive collection of planetary, sign and house rulerships that you will wish you had had long before your purchase. Want to know what planet/sign rules a Foundation? a Charitable Trust? Radio Broadcasters? Satellites? You'll find them in this book along with many more rulerships some well known, but many more obscure but never-the-less useful in your astrology work. I bought it as a result of a recomendation by a well known astroger - and they were right on target as I would have suspected!

I have taught astrology for over 36 years and had the original edition. I bought a newer one for a student and myself. This delineates many items and what they are ruled by. Great for the beginner and professional alike. What a great addition to your metaphysical library.

If you need this information it is invaluable. There is no fluff or interpretation in here. Not for the casual astrologer - you have to know your stuff already.

Essential for the serious astrologer,

This review is from: The Rulership Book (Paperback)
Of all the books in my astrological library, this book (after the ephemeredes) is the one I consult most often. I notice that some reviewers here state that this is a book for advanced learners, but I disagree. I think ALL astrologers can profit from using it. My knowledge of astrology was only basic when I first started using this book 25 years ago. Thanks in great part to this book, my knowledge has grown considerably. Rulerships are not assigned arbitrarily, but by close observation by generations of astrologers who share their information with other astrologers, who, in turn, either validate or refute it. Over time a logical consensus occurs.
Be sure to read Bills's brief, but essential foreword. Although it's a very easy book to use, as it is simply a series of lists, the foreword can clear up any misunderstanding the would-be astrologer might have. Even though several of the new software programs can open a pop-up list of rulerships, a book is far more practical for serious study. By all means get the software. That can save hours of calculation and eliminate the need for tables of houses. (Some people would even say it eliminates the need for an ephemeris. It could, I suppose, but I think you sacrifice a lot by not having one in book form.) But the serious astrologer really NEEDS Rex E. Bills's THE RULERSHIP BOOK. I consider it essential. Five stars, of course.

A Book You'll Use Over and Over and Over Again!,
By A Reader (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Rulership Book (Paperback)
I bought this book 12 years ago and it has remained front and center on my coffee table through all of that time. I use it for every little (and big) thing. It's a fun book, too, especially if you like lists.
The book outlines "things" under signs, planets and house positions. Very useful.

For the "References" bookshelf,

Rex Bills' "The Rulership Book" is an exhaustive listing of planetary rulerships by both planet and item ruled. Need to know what rules potatoes? Look up "potatoes." Need to know which vegetables are ruled by the Sun? Find the Sun's chapter.
This truly intelligent design is carried through to the book itself, which has Bill's instructions to make your own notes, and the blank pages on which to do exactly that. Once in a while something comes along that doesn't need improvement, only expansion, and is never bettered for function. "The Rulership Book" falls into that category, and is a bookshelf necessity for the amateur and professional astrologer alike.

I think the Rulership Book is easily read. Subjects easy to find as they are listed alphabetically and separated both by house and by planet.
This is the best book by far as it uses modern day terms as well. I am a 50 yr student of astrology.

Had I known that this book was only a bunch of words listed under each planet, I would have never bought it. I was extremely dissapointed.
