Book Description

January 15, 2013
Social media is changing the way people think about marketing. It’s much more than pushing out the same content through new channels. The biggest shift is that communications is now bi-directional; you can (and must) listen to your customers rather than just talking to (at) them. But, with so many social media channels and new rules of engagement, even seasoned marketing professionals sometimes get stuck on where to begin.

This book was created for business-to-business (B2B) marketing professionals who need to move quickly towards a marketing mix that now includes social media. While there are many books on social media marketing, there are few that focus on B2B. While B2B marketing is still the commonly used term to differentiate it from business-to-consumer (B2C) marketing, social media -- and the future of marketing -- is about people-to-people (P2P) communications.

In this book, social media practitioners Michael Procopio, Peter Spielvogel, and Natascha Thomson share their combined 20 years of hands-on social media experience explaining how you can best leverage social media for your business. Learn how to understand market requirements, engage in conversations with your customers, build awareness for your solutions, and generate targeted leads with social media.

Using a combination of proven best practices and real-world stories, the authors describe how to maximize your return on investment with Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, and other popular online channels. The focus is on how to engage more effectively with your customers and prospects using social media.

The phased approach used in the book enables you to make steady progress as you move into social media without getting overwhelmed by too many options. Instead, the book makes it easy to integrate what you learn into your existing marketing strategy and day-to-day execution, step by step, while avoiding classic mistakes like over-committing resources. Providing small and well-defined chunks, this book will help you define what is right for your business, as taking on too much has caused many failures.

If you want to remain relevant as a marketing professional and avoid common mistakes, read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Educational Reference April 16, 2013
Format:Paperback
Whether it's social media marketing, or you are new to social media, this is the only book that I know of that explains why and how we use social media. It is a mandatory text for my e-learning, online, classes for college students. The new wave of online education is based on social learning, and this book answers the questions that students might have regarding online social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Linked-in, and more.

The book gives great justification to build online educational Team Wikis, which I have recently discovered is an excellent way for students to learn. This book solves the mystery regarding Wikis and all other social media tools that many of us are puzzled with, when we first start using it. Thus, it saves me the time, as an instructor, in having to take extra time in answering these common questions.

What I like most about this book is that the chapters are short but have powerful context. Student's are not intimidated with the reading assignments and enjoy the book. If you are a college instructor teaching marketing, then this is a must. If you are a college instructor teaching online classes, then this is a must. If you are just starting out to use social media online this is a must. In short, a great easy read, that is informative, educational, and well worth buying!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic resource for social media marketing! April 10, 2013
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is very comprehensive, well-written, and filled with great ideas and suggestions about using social media marketing. It really helps flesh out the social media landscape-- what channels are out there and what people use them for-- so that business-people can leverage the right channel to attract and engage customers. For example, it explains how different Facebook and LinkedIn are, and how people use one for personal vs for professional connections and information. The book also goes into detail about strategies and tactics for social media marketing campaigns. I keep referring back to this book to absorb and utilize the information further, so it really is a very good resource. The appendix is helpful as well, as is the addition of the website to update regularly as the social media landscape constantly changes.
