Charles Kraft is professor of Anthropology and intercultural communications at Fuller Theological Seminary. He is also President of Deep Healing Ministries Inc., is the author of many books, and is a widely recognized authority in the fields of spiritual warfare and deliverance. Charles lives with his wife Marguerite, in California.
David DeBord is Executive Director of The Christian Pastoral Counseling Center of Pasadena and of Deep Healing Ministries Inc. He has 17 years of pastoral experience and is currently involved as a counselor and deliverance minister. David lives with his wife, Constance, and his children in California.

As soldiers of the Kingdom of God our battle strategy is both defensive and offensive. It is defensive in that we are to be prepared for war, not a war such as the world fights, but a spiritual war; not against flesh and blood, but against wicked demonic beings in space (Eph. 2:2, 6:12). We are called "to put on the whole armor of God" (Eph. 6:10-20). We are to protect ourselves, using all the authority that the Father has given us. But the battle is also offensive; we are to be looking for "captives" to set free. Captives are those who are trapped in Satan's deception, trapped by their allegiance to the darkness. Whether they are in darkness by their own choices or for lack of Light, Jesus calls us to set them free, to bring Light to the Darkness. Sometimes we may be the vary captives who need freedom!
It is to this battle that we now turn our attention. The portion of the battle that is most crucial to know and understand is the rules that seem to govern it. More specifically, we need to know and understand the rules that govern the spirit beings who fight with us, the angels of the kingdom of God; and the spirit beings warring against us, the dark angels of Satan's army.
It appears that the same rules and principles govern both sides. Therefore, if we are to be victorious, we must begin to discover what the rules of engagement are in the battle that consumes us. The demonic spirits we battle certainly know what the rules are and use them to their advantage against us. And for us, unfortunately, ignorance of the rules or even of the battle that is raging against us does not protect us from its results.
