Perkins does it again. I think the six rules can be broken into two groups, those that contradict our nature (don't get in a fight, don't risk it all, and don't lose your cool) and those that we naturally supress (don't give up, don't ask for help and don't look stupid.) I think there are very few men who can boil down the problems we face as Christian men the way Bill Perkins can and I highly suggest you add this book to your collection. Bill's other talent is writing books men will actually read! I think he has a scientific equation that tells him the exact amount of words that men will read without zoning out. You need this book. Thanks for writing another winner Bill.

In 6 Rules Every Man Must Break, Perkins shines a spotlight on the hypocrisy generated by "add-on" rules and supposed Christian leaders who make demands beyond the pale of modern-day men. The six rules that a spiritual man must know when to defy are "The Rule of Passivity" (sometimes getting in a fight is necessary to defend oneself and loved ones),"The Rule of Playing It Safe" (risking it all may be needed to take a stand for one's beliefs), "The Rule of Perseverance" (expending energy into a lost cause will serve no one, especially not God), "The Rule of Independence" (while independence is a valuable trait to strive for, there are times when seeking help is necessary to avoid great harm), "The Rule of Restraint" (it is natural to feel anger against injustice - the key is not to let anger control one's actions), and "The Rule of Impressing Others" (there are more important things in both physical and spiritual life than a flawless reputation). Though written especially for men - and speaking out with particular strength against efforts in the so-called name of Jesus Christ to "domesticate" men as passive creatures who won't stand up for themselves - 6 Rules Every Man Must Break offers salient points for the consideration of all Christians, men and women alike. Perkins reminds the reader that Jesus Christ spoke out against the "add-on" rules of the Pharisees, and compares the excessive rituals of ancient times to the efforts of modern churches to over-control and over-tithe their members. Discussion questions round out this thought-provoking, passionately charged treatise about the importance of balancing spiritual duty with real-life responsibilities, and how being true to God and Jesus Christ can require one to take a stand.

Bill Perkins made his book appraochable for a genearation of men who tend to read less. His humor about life situations and his straightforward candor to issues we find within contemporary Christianity are at most places on point. Occassional he crosses a line between what he believes and what Scripture clearly teaches on, but not too often. His chapter dealing with Abiding in the Vine (chapter 3) is the best I have come across in a long time!

I recommend this book to pastors who need to lighten up a little and I recommend it to all men's ministry leaders. We live in a time that more rules need to be broken if we are to reach an emerging generation for Christ.

This is a great book. If you truly desire to follow Christ and not man...this book is for you. If you are trying to please man, then don't bother! This book gives insight, strength, and empowerment to those who seek God's kingdom on earth. Jesus is our example and the legalistic structure of the Pharisees still exist today....many times in sheep's clothing..with "good" intentions. Break these barriers that man has made and draw closer to Christ and His purpose for you. Thanks Bill for your humorous examples, and being open and real! God Bless

"6 Rules Every Man Must Break exposes the false teaching of man-made rules..." This is a very true statement. Men have been castrated because of the fear of man due to these false teachings and man-made rules. Thank you Bill for your efforts ot expose this false doctrine, this disease that has so infected Christianity to date - even to the highest levels within the church. Jesus was NOT a wussy man, but he was in control of himself and obedient to His Father, what I get from reading what God inspired you to write AND from God's word, scripture. This book, along with your other writings (all I believe inspired and guided by God) has been a great relief to read because I truly believed what you put in writing before you actualy wrote it. I stand locked in arms on the front lines with you, Bill, I will fight the battle along side of you.

Keep up the good work! Your 6 Rules book is a must-must-read for every man. It addresses the very church-caused issues that drive millions of spiritually hungry Americans away from God.

This book will help. Being a Christian doesn't mean being a passive little sissy-mary. In fact, it's just the opposite.

There are God's perfect rules, and then there are the ways the Christian community twists them into something oppressive. The explanations and anecdotes in this book will help you develop a keen acumen to to distinguish between the two.

Perkins' books and ministry is a good companion to John Eldrige books and "No More Christian Nice Guy" by Paul Coughlin. These powerful mens ministries have got it right.

Bill goes against the grain of modern thinking by taking a look at the issues men face in today's Christian church by stepping back and using sound assessments of where things have gone awry. Unfortunately he's right; the modern church has lost its message for men. By pointing out 6 rules modern society has placed on men in an attempt to change the way God has us wired, Bill faces the opposition head on and there are some who will become angered by this message. Much like his book 6 Battles, Bill pulls no punches as you set down the path to gain your freedom from the bonds that society has placed upon you. Be prepared, this book will offend some Christians, only because the truth can be painful. But others will see the truth, the need for confronting the 6 rules every man must break.

Abide in me...
We have heard these words from Jesus many times. In one section of Bill's book he provides insight into how the understanding of these simple words can change the way you approach the challenges in your life.
Bill's candid yet refreshing warning about the dangers associated with concentrating on "made up" rules instead of the things that are really important is dead on. I am confident that this book will provide many men the freedom to live life in a way they did not think possible.

WOW!!!! I just finished the book and I think I'm irritating my wife and staff because it's all I'm talking about and all I am qouting.

The book is riddled with so much truth, chapter 2 really sent my world
spinning. 6 Rules challenged me...no, it woke me up and shook me out of the bed of legalism I was lying in. I was in bed too long with these rules. Bill has written something truly controversial, but also a truth many need to hear. Bill Perkins nailed it!! I have read only a few books that I can say were pivotal to my walk with God and life in general. This is definetly a book that has and will continue to change my life and thinking.
