If I've learned anything over my time playing golf, it's that there are very, very few players who actually know the rules. There are even fewer who actually follow them. I'm fairly well versed on them, but it's so easy to get confused. I mean, many of golf's rules are just plain stupid. They make no sense, so it's hard to remember them.

I think that this book does an excellent job of explaining some of the more difficult rules to remember in the game. I'll admit, when I bought it, I was kind of hoping for something I could keep in my golf bag, but this is just a bit too large for that. For those who are interested, though, the USGA website does sell a handbook for just that. They offer it for free. You just have to pay the shipping.

The reason why I bought this book anyway is because I wanted something that might help me to remember some of the nuances a little bit better. For instance, in stroke play competition, it is not legal to take a break to get shelter from rain unless play is suspended by the committee. In match play, it is legal to do so. The illustration that the book provided made this little nuance very difficult to forget.

So for anyone who plays golf regularly but does not have a rule book, I think this is a good first one to get. Even for a veteran who is looking for something to keep at home to refer to once in a while, this is a good buy. Heck, even someone on the rules committee who needs an official book to make judgments during a tournament will do well with this book. The only negative is simply the fact that it is not the book to lug around in your golf bag unless you're Rodney Dangerfield.

Great book, and easy to understand. Trying to teach my 9 yr. old the rules is hard enough, but this book is going to make it much, much easier.

So many players do not know the rules. The illustrations and examples help you understand the more complex rules. It's easier than reading the official rule book. It also keeps it interesting. Now I call out my friends for infractions and they hate me for it--haha. They also ask me for rulings all the time. Great.

I ordered this book because there are so many rules to golf. It was very educational. The print of the book is very large and easy to read. One of my favorite aspects of the book was at the end of each chapter discussing a particular rule they have a "common questions" section that helps to clarify the rule. Even though this book covers the years 2012 to 2015, I doubt that the rules will change too much next year. It was a great purchase. I am surprised what I didn't know and I have been playing golf since I was a child.

If you are going to learn the rules, even if just a bit, this book is the one to read. Illustrations help explain in laymans' terms how to proceed if a player is not sure. Remember, the rules are there to help, not hurt. As a PGA GOlf Professional, I give this book to alot of my students and friends so that they can understand the game better and enjoy the game better as well. You never know when you will run into a situation in a friendly match and your opponent breaches a rule and you can nail him on it. It might just save you a few bucks in your Sunday Nassau.

The illustrations are excellent and help golfers of all levels think about the rules of the game. Much easier to read than the basic Rules of Golf Book.

This is a fairly large format book with many illustrations. It covers all of the official Rules of Golf. I find this a useful tool for instruction on the Rules of Golf. It is much easier to understand the rules when they are illustrated so that the reader does not have to rely heavily on the very specific language and definitions used in the rules.

Certainly OK, but doesn't really enhance the existing rule book. The USGA's Quick Guide to the Rules has better and more effective illustrations. Glad to see the USGA attempting to do things like this to clarify the rules.
