This review is from: Rules in School (Strategies for Teachers, ) (Paperback)
As a student teacher I got this book after reading "the first six weeks of school" which is also part of the responsive classroom series. "rules in school" goes into more detail about creating rules with students, and goes through steps teachers should take in disciplining students, for example the "3 R's of teacher language": reinforcing, reminding, and redirecting. It also has a detailed rationale for when and how to use logical consequences. this book taught me more than my classroom management class and is a great resource.

This book is fantastic! It offers specific, practical, step by step advice for getting your class off to the right start. It has separate chapters for k-2, 3-5, and 6-8 grade classroom. More than just rules, this book describes a complete, simple classroom management system with lots of classroom examples and sample scripts for the teacher. If you are a fan of Harry Wong, you'll LOVE this book.

This is an excellent resource for new teachers and experienced teachers alike. Practical ideas that WORK! Divided into age groups (Kndg-2nd, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th) and developmentally appropriate. I've taught for 30+ years and highly recommend this book for any teacher.

Rules in School,

This book has had some useful ideas, but so far, I am having trouble implementing them all. I feel like my students need a more clear-cut rewards/discipline system than what this book has to offer. I think this book has great ideas, but I'm going to incorporate some of the ideas into the system that I already have in place, which seems to work.
