Diana Hacker is the master of the writer's reference guide, and this book is no exception. I also own Hacker's Pocket Manual of Style, which is one of the best quick-references I've ever used. In the book's description, Hacker states that she "tests" her books out on students, and it really shows!

Like her other reference materials, this book shows intuition and usefulness that many writer's handbooks do not have. Don't take my word for it. If you check out her other books, you will notice that the reviews are all very positive; this is always a good sign of quality authorship.

This book is a great reference for instructors, students, and writers (like me). The index is very well thought out, as well. The book covers APA, MLA, and a lot of other material that would be impossible to go over here. This reference has been around a long time, and just seems to get better with the updates.

Absolutely a great buy.

The book was very well organized and the information itself was helpful. However, if you are in anyway computer savvy, you can get all of your MLA format questions answered on university websites. I bought it because it was required for my English class, but realized later that I didn't really need it. If you would rather get information from a book than the internet, then it is the way to go. It is very well equipped.

I've used Rules for Writers with my tutoring clients for seven years. It's an outstanding value -- a combination of writing manual, chock full of rules and guidance, and a textbook, complete with exercises for applying those rules.

It was in amazing condition. Good book so far, but the font is pretty tiny, which can pose a problem for some.

This book has helped my wife improve her english and grammar skills as she is currently undertaking the pursuit of a college degree. It has been beneficial to her development since English is not her mother language. Recommend it to anyone who is about to take classes that involve serious writing at the collegiate level.

I recently purchased Rules for Writers with Tabs with 2009 MLA Update. It is a terrific resource for students from high school on up. I bought it for my tutorial for English learners, on the recommendation of a junior college student, and they use it every day. Kudos to Diana Hacker.
