Rock with Ruleta,
By Moovin2Montana (Phoenix AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ruleta (Jewl) (Audio CD)
Zayra's debut album is suberb. I recommend the first track, "Hoy", in which Zayra's voice brings to mind Alanis Morisette. The fourth track, "Cada Momento", showcases the strength and range of Zayra's voice with acustic guitars lending a flamenco touch. The album is rock through out but with enough variation in theme and pace to make each song interesting. There are no bad songs on this ablum. If you like latin pop/rock, then this album is a must buy. With talent like this, we should anticipate much more from this young star.

This is one of those cds where every single track is great. And to top it off they are all written by Zayra and she also wrote the music. This is music for everyone. Zayra is like a mixture of Gwen Stefani and Shakira. She performs great in person. She's just one of those few best out there in the music industry. So please go out and get a copy of Ruleta. You will be glad you did. Take Care.

What a great mix of soulful ballads, upbeat pop songs, and Latin flavored music. Zayra (pronounced Zieda) exhibits an amazing range with her voice. Ruleta showcases her abilities as both a songwriter and singer. I highly recommend that anybody searching for "the next big thing" buy Ruleta and listen to a future star beginning to shine.
The album is in Spanish and I can't wait to see the translated lyrics but the music is fantastic and I HIGHLY recommend you give it a listen.

Much more then I expected!,
This review is from: Ruleta (Jewl) (Audio CD)
I bought this album as a thank you for the great entertainment that Zayra provided on Rockstar Supernova this past summer. I fully expected this to be a poorly produced home-made album and I was wrong. Rouleta is a beautiful album that I sincerely hope more people get to hear.
Favorite tracks - Hoy Lluvia de Mar This is Love Let's alll hope that tthings to come from this exciting new artist. P.S. MORE ROCK!!

I agree with all the previous comments. I would like to add a few words about the last song: Alma boricua. Zayra has delivered the sequel to timeless songs such as "En mi viejo San Juan" and "Lamento borincano". For all "boricuas" far away from their homeland, "Alma boricua" brings back lots of memories of the "Isla del encanto". Zayra, espero que visites Phoenix muy pronto para que nos deleites con tus bellas canciones.

Very Refreshing,
This review is from: Ruleta (Audio CD)
I remember watching this awesome girl on the Rockstar Supernova show where she gave a try of singing in english and she bombed going from Bjork to crazy and wacky. I ended up platonically falling in love staring @ the tv when she went on. My fiancee and I were bewildered by her stage presence. Anyway, this cd absolutely revindicates her talent. I would be surprised to see any of the fellow competitors from the show make a better record than this one. Supernova for what I've heard on the radio is ok too. Lukas Rossi sounds better now.

How I came across Zayra I'll never know. I was looking at an endcap of local/unknown artists at a local shop (which doesn't carry much of anything unknown, ironic eh?) when my gaze fell upon a quite exotic cover. The cover sparked enough of an interest in me to make me willing to pay the 11 bucks to buy it. It should be known that I'm not big on bi-language albums, so without looking at the tracklisting before I got home I didn't know what I was getting myself into. If you're like me, be forewarned that over half of this CD is devoted to a language other than english.
In the mood for a dance song with rock overtones? Rock Me Baby, the lead-off song, is the perfect fit, and the perfect introduction to Zayra's brand of music. Driven by not only a powerful beat, Zayra proves to be more than a competent singer as well. This Is Love has the vocals acting as a backdrop to the excellent guitar/drum combo. At first I wasn't too keen on this track but with further, more detailed listens I've grown quite fond of it. So Long is more of a pop oriented track, sounding more like a mainstream act than anything else. Nevertheless, So Long is a solid track. Broken proves to be my favorite song on the album. The verse starts off slow enough but the chorus comes in in almost a blaze. Anyone familiar with Lacuna Coil will surely notice how much Zayra sounds like Cristina Scabbia in this track. Forever rounds out the actual CD nice enough with almost a techno feel, Zayra sounds great with her voice on display proudly. As I said, I'm not big on bi-language albums but Zayra has a way of making the lyrics not matter too much. So while I still skip over the spanish speaking songs, they are entirely tolerable. It surprises me that Zayra hasn't experienced more exposure than what she's gotten (none really). Her voice is pristine enough to give you goosebumps at times, but rugged enough to make rock fans stand up and listen as well. She has a "look" that's marketable, i.e., she's easy on the eyes. Not to mention that she's got a lot of variety on this CD. My favorite songs are Rock Me Baby, This Is Love, Broken, and Forever. In need of finding an artist that can't be pigeon-holed and who is full of potential? Then Zayra is definitely the artist you've been looking for. With body-rocking beats, fantastic vocals, and great lyrics, Ruleta, and more importantly, Zayra, impresses. Since it's not posted, here's the tracklisting: Rock Me Baby This Is Love Alma Boricua So Long Lluvia de Mar Amigo Mio Hoy Entiendeme Broken Cuando Monet Forever Bonus Tracks: Rock Me Baby (edit) Solo Por Siempre |
