Editorial Review

Get ready to rumble! Rumble Robots are like BattleBots meet e-pets meet Pokémon. Rumble Robots is a collectible card game that combines card play with a battling electronic robot counterpart. First, play the card game to win cards from your opponent, then swipe the won cards through your robot to give him more power. Robots battle in an attempt to kill each other's power supply, by either tipping them over, hitting their antenna-like terminate switch, or sapping power via laser attack. The winning bot gets to collect "treasure points"--registering their victories in memory. Just out of the box, the robot is sluggish, none too nimble, and he doesn't have "punch power" or "laser power." But that is easily remedied because he comes with five game cards, some of which can be used to give him more speed, agility, and battle power. Rumble Bot can travel forward or backwards, deliver a battery of punches, shout out various cries of battle, and shoot power-sapping "laser beams"--all via remote control. Of course if you want to battle, you'll have to get another bot, and to play a really good game, you'll have to get extra cards as well. Every bot comes with a poster depicting all the available power cards. The remote requires three "AAA" batteries (not included). The robot requires four "AA" batteries (not included) and three LR button cell batteries (included). --M. Sullivan

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool!, July 2, 2001
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Rumble Robot: Me Fisto (Toy)
I don't often review toys, but these toys are great! My son and I watch a certain TV robots show, and when he saw the commercial, he went crazy, he had to have one! (Fortunately for him, his birthday was coming up.) These toys are a combination of remote-control robot and card game. The cards are "swiped" through a slot in the back of the robot, and that dictates the abilities of the robot. The card game dictates which cards you get.

Note: Though these are listed as suitable for ages 4 and up, a four-year-old would probably need an adult to power-up the robot by swiping the right cards. However, I must say that swiping the cards is not a problem; my seven and ten-year-olds have no trouble with them.

This one is Me-Fisto, a prize-fighting robot. He has swinging arms that punch with great motion, he's exciting to even watch!

Now, here are my observations. The cards that come with the robot are not necessarily the best, but merely a random selection. As such, you really do need to buy at least one extra pack of cards. To start with, sort out the best cards you have for level, speed and punch, and then practice controlling the robot--it's a hoot!

My children love this robot and yours will, too. Now, I gave this toy 5 stars in all three categories, which I have never done before. This just shows how much I think of this toy. Hurry up and buy one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Toy!, September 4, 2001

I think these toys are very good. My favorite one is Me-Fisto, I also have Lobjaw. The object of the game is to destroy the opponents robot by: a). Flipping them over b). Hitting their terminate switch (on the back of the robot, the little tail thing.) by punching. or c). hitting them with your infared laser. A few cons about this toy are : a. They use up a LOT of batteries (4AA's+ 3AAA's+ 2 button cells for memory backup (Already included)) b. You must collect a lot of cards to get a good robot. c. Because they use infared controllers etc. they do not work well in sunlight and certain robots' signals will overlap (consult instruction manual for more info). This will make a good but pricey birthday present.

Hey if your looking for a Rumble Robot this is the one to get. MeFisto is the best. He's fast and powerful. If you upgrade his power punch to 5 you won't lose. His laser is good to. He's my favorite robot. They things are really cool and really fun to play with and they are extra durable. I accidentally dropped it down a half flight of stairs and it didn't break. If your looking for a Rumble Robot get MeFisto. He's GREAT!!!!!
