I love the weight and heft of this trowel. I love the metal and the rounded tip. I love the way the handle fits in my hand. The Rumford Gardener Pro Trowel is perfect for digging, transplanting, and weeding.

For weeding, I hold the trowel in my right hand, make an insertion behind the weed and pull it out with my left hand. On to the next. I don't spray poisons into the soil, I don't pull the weed and leave roots--I dig it out and it is gone!! Perhaps a more pointed blade would work better, but this unit and I work as a team now and we are happy!

I got this Rumford trowel last spring, and it is absolutely perfect. It is sturdy and a good width. The handle is very easy to grip. It's my favorite gardening tool.

My significant other recycled her trowel. I bought one of each that I could find over the internet, and put them all in a box for Christmas. I'm thinking there were 9 trowels, all different. This one rose to the top. Maybe a little heavy, but nice balance and easy on the palms.

If you're in the market for good quality small garden tools I would highly recommend The Rumford Gardener large trowel, transplanting trowel, and the cultivator. I purchased them many many years ago. They're solid die cast aluminum and they're cast in one solid piece with a rubberized handle coating. They're tough as nails and strong as an ox yet light enough to use for a long period of time. In my rocky tough soil they keep on going where a lesser trowel would have been bent long long ago. I also find them quite comfortable to use.

The garden trowel is very handy for digging holes for just about anything. If you're planting lots of bulbs in individual hole or small transplants from cell packs the transplanting tool is very narrow and perfect for this, it also has markings every inch so you know how deep to dig the hole. The cultivating fork is very nice for working up the top of the soil for seed planting or for working compost and fertilizer in around your plants.

This trowel is just what I was hoping it would be. It feels solid and even though I've only used it a few times, I don't expect it to bend when I inevitably use it to pry a rock out of the ground. If I had to give one minor complaint, it would be that the interior metal does not extend to the loop at the end of the handle. It shortens, by just a bit, the usable leverage.

I have hard soil and have gone through many trowels over the years. They tend to bend and even snap in two! Even the Craftsman and Fiskars trowels I've owned have failed me. I bought the Rumford trowel two years ago and I've had no problem with it at all. It's very sturdy and strong. It's pricey, but in my opinion it's worth the investment.
