5.0 out of 5 stars Verheyen is an amazing musician, March 17, 2006
I am an avid fan of guitar-oriented music. I only heard about Carl Verheyen in 2005. "Rumor Mill" is the first product of his that I bought. While it is priced about three times the cost of a CD product, it is definitely worth it. This product includes both DVD and CD, and, for me, it was an excellent introduction to a truly master musician. It is easy to appreciate how good he is when you can see as well as hear him play. The concert footage is excellent, and so are the DVD recordings inside the studio. My personal favorite parts of the DVD include the bonus materials. On one segment he demonstrates many vintage guitars from the 50s and 60s. On another segment he gives a discussion of his amplification system to master class participants. All of the bonus material is worthwhile. Verheyen's playing is simply amazing. He'll play simple licks and riffs when warranted in a song, but he'll include advanced techniques and incomparable phrasing with apparent ease. He is very tone-conscious, so you'll hear crisp clean tones, rockin' sustained fullness, and everything in between. He presents himself in a very unpretentious way (e.g., he wears a t-shirt and jeans) and seems like a very amicable, humble guy when he discusses his music in the explanatory sections. I VERY HIGHLY recommend "Rumor Mill."
