4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good.
If you're a diehard Fleetwood Mac fan, there's not much new information here. But if you're a new fan, this book is a good place to start. The author does an excellent job of presenting events in chronological order...sometimes difficult to do when recording sessions overlapped with tour dates, band members' solo projects, and personal milestones. Nice photos but they...

If you've seen the VH1 Behind The Music specials on FLeetwood Mac and Stevie Nicks there's NOTHING NEW to learn here. The writer took quotes from the VH1 specials and articles she found on the Fleetwood Mac Penguin website and wrote a book making up stories to surround these out of context quotes. Its sad that this "author" didn't make any attempt to do ANY research, talk to ANYONE or do ANYTHING other than view 2 hours of tv shows and read a few dozen old articles.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing new, December 3, 2000
This review is from: Rumours Exposed: The Unauthorized Biography of Fleetwood Mac (Hardcover)
Even a casual fan of Fleetwood Mac's will not find any surprises in Leah Furman's biography, "Rumours Exposed". It's obvious Furman did not talk to anyone even remotely associated with FM, and she used readily accessable print/Web sources for the majority of her information. The writing is stop and go as well, as if this was a magazine article padded to book length, and Ms. Furman's style veers between rock-journalist pretension and gushy fan. Diehards may just want the book to add to their collection, but if you're less than that, just borrow it from your local public library.

Sorry guys, nothing new here. It's all rehashed from the usual articles, and if you're a fan of the group you've read all these articles 6 times by now. Save yourself the time and go reread Mick's autobiography!

1.0 out of 5 stars Ugh...don't bother, December 2, 2000

This review is from: Rumours Exposed: The Unauthorized Biography of Fleetwood Mac (Hardcover)
The book jacket says this is "a veritable treasure trove of Fleetwood Mac lore" and an "essential volume" to add to your collection if you're a Fleetwood fan. Insights? Untold stories? New info? Juicy details? Nope. You'll get the same quotes you've already read in the magazines, but sliced, diced, slapped together, and peppered with the author's maddeningly superficial and speculative judgments. Read the original magazine articles for the full quotes in their proper context, which provide you with far more well-rounded, fair, and informed views of each of these interesting, complex and talented people. This is decidedly unessential and not even a fun read if you actually like this band and all of its members.

Sorry guys, absolutley nothing new here: it's all rehashed from the same old published articles that everyone who's a fan has already read. Even the pictures add nothing exciting here. If you want a decent read of the group check out Mick Fleetwood's autobiography. And we can always look forward to the day when Stevie writes her own book...

The author does an excellent job of presenting events in chronological order...sometimes difficult to do when recording sessions overlapped with tour dates, band members' solo projects, and personal milestones. Nice photos but they focus too much on the late 90s, would love to have seen more photos of the early days.

This book blew me away. I have always loved the Mac. I've read all the books. This one was by far the best. All the good stuff, the love affairs, the rock and roll lifestyle was well documented. This one is definitely going on my list of best books of all time. Good going to the writer! You made my life a little brighter.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page-turner, November 30, 2000

My friend who is a big fan of Fleetwood Mac gave me this book. I loved it. As it turns out all those Fleetwood Mac fans have a point. This is a most fascinating story, and even if I don't always appreciate their music, their story makes up for any such shortcomings. I couldn't put the book down.

This review is from: Rumours Exposed: The Unauthorized Biography of Fleetwood Mac (Hardcover)
Having read all of the other Fleetwood Mac books and hundreds of articles, etc., in my opinion this is an annoying and amateurish effort. Even Mick Fleetwood's book, which contains many inaccuracies and biases, isn't this skewed. Ms. Furman has strung together a lot of quotes, mostly out of context, and glued them together with her totally subjective opinion of what the speaker meant. How she was able to analyze and offer up opinions without having any personal contact with these people is a mystery to me. It's not "unauthorized" by accident - this book is a great disservice to Fleetwood Mac.

3.0 out of 5 stars Clips Rehashed, August 7, 2007
By
Based on no interviews with any of the principles, this rock bio expose uses clips from many contemporary newspaper and mag articles to build a story of how this '70s supergroup fared before, during and after its biggest moments surrounding the albums "Fleetwood Mac" and "Rumours." The usual romantic entanglements are recalled. You'll be quite sick of Lindsey Buckingham's self absorption. But you'll want to go back and re-listen to the great music, which is the real point of books like this anyway.
