RUN FROM FEAR

More than anything, Talia Vega wanted to leave behind her harrowing past. Moving eight hundred miles away, she succeeded . . . until the one man who knows her darkest secrets wanders into the restaurant where she works. Now the agonizing memories come crashing back-along with an undeniable desire for Jack Brooks, the ex-Green Beret who rescued her from a sadistic monster two years ago.

Jack Brooks knows that showing up unannounced is a purely selfish move. Talia doesn't need his protection anymore, but he can't get the raven-haired beauty out of his mind. RAVE REVIEW FOR JAMI ALDEN AND HIDE FROM EVIL:

"4 1/2 stars...Anyone who says that romantic suspense is no longer a hot commodity hasn't read Jami Alden. She's quickly making a name for herself as one of the top writers in the genre. Her latest novel continues her streak of excellent, gripping stories and brings captivating recurring characters along for the ride."
--RT Book Reviews

"An emotional, adrenalin rush...Sexual chemistry engulfs these two and spills from the pages with the force of a tsunami...Alden's portrayal of Sean is brilliant, and pairing him with the hard-nosed, determined prosecutor was risky but proved to be perfect. I've been looking forward to reading this novel for months, and Jami Alden didn't disappoint."

More About the Author

Like so many romance readers, my first romance novel was by Kathleen Woodiwiss - The Flame and the Flower, to be exact. I was thirteen. I spent the next month ignoring my friends while I worked my way through her back list. Shortly thereafter I discovered Judith McNaught, Johanna Lindsey, Karen Robards, Catherine Coulter, Shirlee Busbee among others, and devoured their lavish historical epics full of overbearing alpha males and the women who brought them to their knees. I was hooked. My high school teachers marveled at my ability to read romance novels under the desk and still score straight A's. I started to imagine myself, living in a cabin in the mountains somewhere, writing romance novels.

It took me quite awhile to pursue my dream. After graduating from Stanford with a degree in English Literature, I worked in a variety of not so interesting admin jobs before I began my career in marketing. It wasn't exactly my dream job, but at least my writing appeared on several web sites and in many software marketing brochures. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit the phrase "and her loins melted like hot wax" into any of them.

During my stint as the world's surliest receptionist, I took my first stab at writing. The result was a very melodramatic western historical which reads like a bad Elizabeth Lowell rip off. It's currently languishing on my hard drive, forever stuck on page 330.

Then in fall 2001 I had an incredible stroke of luck and got laid off from my marketing job. I decided it was time to stop saying I wanted to be a writer and to actually give it a serious go. Fortunately my husband, a socially well adjusted alpha male, is a very generous patron of the arts.

Four years later, I sold my first book and now I'm pretty much living the dream of getting paid to write romance. I don't live in a cabin in the mountains, but I do live in a rural-ish town near San Francisco (hey, we have deer and bunnies, along with the occasional coyote) with my husband, 2 sons, and a dog who patiently listens to my dialogue and helps me work out plot points. When I'm not writing, I enjoy running, reading, cooking, and watching a brain numbing quantity of food network programming.

3.0 out of 5 stars let down February 25, 2012
By Mari
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I loved Beg for Mercy and Hide from Evil. This book is a part of a series. I was really excited this book came out. As soon as I saw it I grabbed it. This is Talia story. She is getting her life back together after she was tortured. She was in awful 'relationship' which is mentioned in Beg for Mercy. She was helped by Jack. I liked Talia the most part but she got stupid which I found annoying. Jack our hero is there to protect/help Talia (she doesn't know he was)had potential but he fell flat for me. This book talks about Gemini Security/Gemini Men. I felt like Alden was just trying to get me to buy those books. Not going to happen. This book seemed rush and didn't have the depth I felt in Beg for Mercy and Hide from Evil. Not a terrible book but I certainly won't be grabbing a book by Alden just b/c she wrote it. By the way, if you want to read this book I recommend you read Beg for Mercy 1st. It explains the back story which you really don't get in this book. If I didn't read the 1st 2 books in the series I think I would have given it 2 stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars Long!!! Predictable. Repetitive! March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Sorry Mrs. Alden!! I hate to give a bad review of an author whom I have previously enjoyed. ADORED her Gemini Men series, liked the first two in this series, but unfortunately wish I could get my money back on this book.

The first half of this book just drags. You know who the killer is. You know he's not going to kill her (hence happily ever-after concept of most romantic novels). So where is the suspense in a book marketed as Romantic-Suspense???

Would be killers depraved depiction is too nauseating. Rape, torture scenes.

Too much repetiveness in the main characters. Yes, we get how the past has shaped them, we get why they behave the way they do, but it gets down right annoying how much the author empathizes such introspectives into their pysches.

Second half got a little better. But still predictable. Neither the love scenes or the epilogue was enough to redeem this book for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great and suspenseful read March 12, 2012
By Elf2060
Format:Mass Market Paperback
4 1/2 stars. "Run From Fear" by Jami Alden is a thrilling and chilling read about Talia Vega as she continues to try to rebuild her life after the nightmarish experiences that she has had that left her scarred in body and mind. Jack Brooks has watched her from afar, fearing to reveal to her the strength of his attraction to her even as he strives to keep her protected. Talia's actions have revolved around protecting her sister Rosie and trying to overcome the nightmares from her past but she has no idea that Jack has been in the background for the past two years, waiting for her to heal. Eerie occurrences that rekindle the horrors from her past cause Talia to discover that her feelings of security may have been built on a fragile web of deception and someone is out to terrorize her yet again. She has to decide whether to trust and open up her heart to Jack who has his own wounded past to deal with even as she fights against the evil that threatens all she has worked so hard to overcome.

A suspenseful and gripping tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat even as you root for Jack to find a way to reach Talia's heart. The horrors experienced by Talia have scarred her but not yet destroyed her but one wonders how much any one person can overcome. Some of the secondary characters are somewhat two-dimensional and there seem to be some inconsistencies in the villain's behavior at the end which is a bit rushed and more condensed than I would have liked but overall this was a very entertaining read. The touching and passion-filled love scenes are nicely contrasted with frightening and creepy descriptions that seesaw the reader's emotions as the tension gets wound tighter and tighter. A mesmerizing read that will garner more fans for a talented author.
