This review is from: On the Run (Mass Market Paperback)
Knowing he does not have long to live, Tom Brower summons his estranged grandsons, Sid and George Shanley to his upstate New York home. Sid is a used car salesman working in Houston under an assumed name. Older brother George is a front man for the mob living in San Diego. Not only have the Shanley brothers lived their lives estranged from their grandfather, they are also estranged from each other. Complicating matters is the presence of the lovely Paula Lettinger, Tom Brower's nurse. Soon after Paula and Sid Shanley first lay eyes on each other, the sparks begin to fly and before long, a passionate all consuming romance is born.

On the Run is a short, fast paced novel of romance which plays out against a background of crime and betrayal. Written in the early 1960s by legendary author John D. MacDonald, this novel is not at all outdated. Especially appealing is the ending, which, for this reader at least, came as a complete surprise. Recommended to John D. MacDonald fans as well as readers of crime novels looking for something different.

I read anything I can find from Mr. Macdonald. This book exceeds his other works! The raw emotion and power is breathtaking! Even some of the villians are remarkable.
