Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

German film Run Lola Run has been compared to a 70-minute rock video: nonstop action and music, and (for better or worse) not a whole lot of plot. But the premise works, as does the film's high-energy techno soundtrack. Most of the tunes on this disc are credited to the trio of Tykwer/Klimek/Heil--the threesome of film director Tom Tykwer, techno producer John Klimek, and Rynhold Heil (best known as the producer of German pop import 99 Luftballons by Nena). Included are several remixes of the movie's main themes, the bass-heavy "Rock Me" by Pills, and "Wish," featuring the vocals of Franka Potente (Lola herself). There are a ton of soundtracks that have employed dance music, but few work as successfully as Run Lola Run. There's a cohesiveness to this dark and furious mix of beats that your typical compilation just can't muster. --Jason Verlinde

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Full of Energy, May 13, 2000
This review is from: Run Lola Run: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I am not going to lie and say this CD is for everyone. Some people simply cannot appreciate the repetitive nature of techno music. If you are a techno fan and you enjoyed the movie then this soundtrack is certainly worth buying. Many of the tracks are very powerful and make you want to get up and move. Franka Potente has a beautiful voice and her tone matches perfectly with the fast paced drums and bass.

I really enjoy the way this soundtrack features all the music from the movie along with extra remixes. I felt like I got my moneys worth from this CD and highly recomend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!, August 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Run Lola Run: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Audio CD)
I recently saw the film Run Lola Run and thought it rocked -- and I came online and bought the CD the same day. But I didn't get my hopes up too much, because I've been dissapointed way too many times by movie soundtracks. Well, the CD came in the mail today and it is just too cool for words. The tracks are so rich with sound -- don't expect any thin generic techno beats here. I can't get myself to stop playing it! If you haven't seen the movie yet, go see it -- and then order this CD. The music pulses and drives you -- I've been trying to make a good running tape for a while now and if this music doesn't help me improve my time then I don't know what will.

5.0 out of 5 stars I wish I was a hunter, in search of different food..., February 21, 2000

I love it! It's playing in my computer's CD player as I write these words. Others have called it repetive. Well, it *is* techno, isn't it? Repetition of a theme, with new sounds and twists and beats injected, is what techno is all about, for me anyway. This one carries it off perfectly. It's gone around a few times already, and will go around a few more before I give it a break.

One thing that the tracks on this CD carry off perfectly is the integration of vocals with the techno sound. While many techno artists seem to think that voices have to be distorted beyond recognition to fit in to techno, in this case the lyrics come through clearly. This is especially true with Franka Potente's contributions on the first track "Believe" which is worth buying the CD for just on its own.

By the way, if you haven't seen the movie, I recommend it - it's now out on video.
