5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!! January 5, 2012
By Sharon K. Sala
Format:Kindle Edition
I sat down to read this late in the evening and found myself immediately caught up in the story. Being from Oklahoma, I'm always ready to read a story set in my state, and there have been many. This one was set during the time of the famous land run in Oklahoma. I've read many of those, as well. But the people in this book were so well written, and the story-line so engaging that this one stands out far and above for me.

The hardships that the hero and heroine faced were true and exciting. It wasn't so much about the race to get to land, but what happened after the claim was staked that brought the story to such life. I loved the heroine's grit and determination. The secondary characters were a true delight, but even better, Callie Hutton's gift for words was what set this story apart. She pulled me in with laughter and excitement and held me there until the last tear was shed and the sun set on the perfect happy-ever-after.

Well done, Callie Hutton!!! Can't wait for your next one and thank you for such a great read!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for your library! November 29, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
They came from all walks of life. They came in wagons, on horseback, by train, and on foot. They came in droves from every corner of the country, each person hoping to acquire a free plot of land in what was known as the Indian Territory. The 1889 race for land was an epic event in American history and for those brave enough to face the unknown, the unpredictable weather and hardships, it was a promise of a new life on the western frontier.

Despite the danger and uncertainty, plucky school teacher, Tori Henderson, packs up her newly acquired family--her deceased brother's four children--dresses as man, and enters the race, determined to stake her claim. Raised by an aunt who despised men, Tori is determined to do this on her own and vows never to marry or answer to any man. But she didn't count on locking horns with handsome, incorrigible, lawyer, Jesse Cochran. A man determined to put his questionable past behind him and to win Tori's heart no matter how long it takes.

A Run for Love is a well crafted novel filled with memorable characters, adventure, drama, romance and even a dab of humor. Ms. Hutton's ability to take us on an emotional journey back in time, is evident from page one and carries through to the end of the book. A heart rendering story of courage, faith, family and new beginnings, it will make you will laugh and cry. You will watch a town develop out of nothing and get to know the townfolk like they were your neighbors. But above all, you will admire the heroine's spunk and independent spirit, while rooting for the hero's cause. This book is a welcome addition to any e-book library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply a Lovely Read December 26, 2011
By Upstate
Format:Kindle Edition
Historical reads are not easy to write with accuracy. Research is vital if the story - whatever the genre - is to entertain as well as enlighten and inform. I found "A Run for Love" to be carefully crafted and because of Callie's attention to historical detail, the romance was enhanced and delightful.

The reader is easily transported back to the Oklahoma Territory's rich history and is able to feel the hope, despair and triumph of its famous land rush. The blooming romance between Tori and Jesse, Tori's determination to do right by her loved ones, all comes shining through.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and know I'll come back time and again to re-read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great historical western! December 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Having inherited four children, no money, and no hopes of finding a job--Tori sets off with her brood for Indian Territory...where people can race to stake claim to land...and a life.

I found this book totally delightful from page one through to the end. I'm not a regular reader of historical westerns, because honestly their lives were just so hard I don't find reading about that time an escape, but this story is different. This story is one of loss, triumph, and love. And I loved watching the h/h conquer it all with wit, laughter, tears, and love!

The hero and heroine will steal your heart and the kids will too. I'm a Callie Hutton fan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Memorable Romance December 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I'll admit I read two of the sequels to A Run For Love and enjoyed them so much that I had to go back and read the first book in the series. I'm so glad I did! I'm not familiar with Oklahoma or its history, so reading about the land run and the origins of Guthrie was a pleasure. The descriptions were fantastic. But Jesse and Tori kept me reading. I loved Tori's stubborn sense of independence and her dedication to her nieces and nephews. Then there was Jesse. What woman wouldn't swoon over such a man? Romantic and just as stubborn when it came to winning Tori's heart. The story is filled with romance and a good mix of heartache and plenty of unforgettable characters. I look forward to reading more from Callie Hutton!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Run For Love book review December 12, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
From the first paragraph I was pulled into this story. Right away I wanted to see Tori succeed in making her dreams come true and at the same time forging a life for her nieces and nephews. She's a spunky, strong willed lady that you couldn't help but want to see succeed!

But then came Jesse, the hero with a fun sense of humor and good common sense! He had a trying past, but he didn't let it affect his outlook on life and he pushed ahead to make the most of himself.

Right away these two butted heads and I loved their easy, playful banter. And even though Tori tried to deny her attraction, Jesse worked his way into her life and heart.

I don't want to spoil the read by giving too much away. But this is a fun, spirited story full of fun facts about the Oklahoma Land Run. The characters were well written and the story was over before I wanted it to end...but the best part of that is that Callie Hutton is planning sequels and one has already been released. A Wife Before Christmas came out December 1st and is on my list of must reads.

I recommend this to anyone that wants to sit down and enjoy a historical romance with a twist of adventure, fun, humor and happily ever afters...of course with a few obstacles thrown in to make you sit on the edge of your seat!
