Editorial Reviews

No Depression
Striking a balance between Patti Smith and Gillian Welch, Sue Garner's solo debut is the sleeper of this early year. Its soothing strings and subtle craft will surprise those familiar with Garner's abrasively noisy band Run On, while the seductive intimacy with which she insinuates herself under the skin of a song transcends the generic clichés of both alternative rock and alternative country ... the album is a testament to the power of artistic understatement--music without guile or pretense, transparent in its emotional purity.... With one foot in Appalachia and the other in NYC, her artistry is sufficiently expansive to merit a category all its own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Careful, November 27, 2001
By JAY GOLDWEIN (New York, New York United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: To Run More Smoothly (Audio CD)
Wow, can't believe this rather eclectic record has yet to be reviewed. This selection is not for the faint of heart, music is backround type of listener. However, for the more astute and musically adventurous, this stream of consciousness is utter genius. Style ranges from alternative rock to country/folk to a song which pretty much sounds like a snoring frog. Some of the songs are hauntingly beautiful and the last song, Continuous Play, is a stunning ballad.
