This review is from: Run from the Nun! (Hardcover)
"Run From The Nun" is a funny, well-written and action-packed adventure about a girl's exploits in a Catholic school. The heroine is scrappy and loveable-a wonderful mentor for girls. I love the way the author gives readers an affectionate glimpse into Catholic school life. At the same time, she examines some important friendship issues. My daughter loved this book so much she wanted to stay home from school to read it!

This review is from: Run from the Nun! (Hardcover)
Hand your child a book that combines the elements of community service, the benefits of a Catholic faith formation, and the challenge and rewards of adapting to life's ever-changing nature. Author Erin MacLellan delivers all this and more with her engaging first novel, Run from the Nun! (Holiday House, October, 2003, hardcover, 128 pages) This action-packed mystery, aimed at readers ages 9 through 13, finds its central character Kara adapting to life at her new Catholic school. Younger children will love having the story read to them also. Catholic themes abound in this fun book - you'll want to read along with your kids.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved Run from the Nun!, March 7, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Run from the Nun! (Hardcover)
I thought Run from the Nun was really cool because, even though Kara wanted to escape from her school at first, she ended up wanting to stay. The other thing I liked about Kara was I knew how she felt being the new kid in a school. I've been the new kid a lot. Run from the Nun is funny and I like the mystery part of it. The ending will surprise you!

Despite her valiant efforts, she can't get thrown out of St. Joan of Arc School. In the meantime, she develops a friendsip with crime-solving, Nicole Kingston, and together they uncover a mysterious mission of the janitor. 5.0 out of 5 stars nun fun, January 30, 2004
This review is from: Run from the Nun! (Hardcover)
As a person who survived 16 years of Catholic school, I greatly enjoyed reading Run from the Nun by Erin MacLellan. This book captures some of the funnier elements of Catholic school life -- scary nuns, puzzling rituals, uniform rebellion. Kara, who is unhappy at her new school, and her amateur detective friend, Nicole, set out to sort out some mysterious events in the church cemetery in an entertaining story, that moves quickly and keeps the reader curious. I highly recommend it for school-age kids who like mysteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Fast-paced, January 26, 2004

This review is from: Run from the Nun! (Hardcover)
Run from the Nun! is a fast-paced book about Kara, whose parents have put her in Catholic school. Kara's character is what makes the book so delightful. She's got an over-the-top imagination. When she meets Nicole, another quirky character who's a buddy criminologist, it's easy for her to believe sinister things are going on at the school. If they can prove it, maybe her parents will put her back in her old school! I gave this book to my son and three nieces and all of them read it with scarcely any breaks and thoroughly enjoyed it. Light-hearted, fun reading that elementary school kids will (and do) especially enjoy.

This review is from: Run from the Nun! (Hardcover)
Kara's parents have transferred her to St. Joan of Arc School in the hopes that she will do better in school. Kara doesn't want to change schools and leave her best friend. But as time goes by, she becomes more and more involved with the events that are going on around her. Kara becomes particularly interested in solving the mystery around what is happening in the church cemetary. "Run from the Nun" is a mystery book for young readers ages 9 to 12. And when that mystery is solved, the possibility of new mysteries loom on the horizon.
