*insert scream of frustration here*,

This review is from: Run To The Stars (Paperback)
Written accents kill stories. They kill the flow of conversations, narratives, themes, thoughts, chop up ideas, and most importantly make things extremely difficult to read.
It's okay to mention Kristy speaks in a Scottish accent, don't do in the reader with it. If it weren't for her choking, stumbling, unreadable dialogue, I would have gotten more than half-way through the book before giving up. I know what a Scottish accent sounds like, thank you. There's no need to sputter it out onto the paper, that's what adjectives are for. Other than the above mentioned, what I was able to read of Bellamy's story was well written and interesting. After the opening chapter, which I barely made it through, thanks to Kristy, I decided to press on. Then she and her horrid accent showed up again. Sad, I'd like to hear what happened and how this one ended. |
