This is the first of three volumes Houseman wrote, and it is essential reading for anyone interested in the history of 20th century American theatre. Put it with Moss Hart's ACT ONE, Harold Clurman's THE FERVENT YEARS, R. E. Jones's THE DRAMATIC IMAGINATION. Also, Houseman writes with energy, with, and flair. This is a glorious read: unputtable downable. Read RUN THROUGH and you'll rush to read thenext two volumes.-- Tom Markus |
