5.0 out of 5 stars I've dropped 7 minutes off my 5K using this book.
I do sprint triathlons and running has always been my weakest leg because I've never used a structured run training plan. My 5K time in a sprint tri has been around 30 min. (pretty darn slow). I incorporated Bobby's 5K running plan from Run Workouts into my sprint triathlon plan about two months ago. The structured training, its gradual progression of volume and...

This book does give you some more ideas on particular sessions to keep variety in the program. There is nothing new or ground breaking presented. Too much walking in the programs. As an experienced runner I didn't find the need to get too involved in the program recommendations other than skimming them. On the suface a newcomer might find them useful.

The structured training, its gradual progression of volume and intensity, and the variety of workouts have kept me motivated and working hard. No more "run twice around the park" for me; I'm actually doing interesting, productive workouts.

And so far I've dropped 7 minutes off my 5K time! That kind of time should result in big gains on race day.

If you aren't able to be coached by Bobby McGee personally, then this is the next best thing. His methods are highly scientific and tested. This handbook is so complete & well-designed that it is accessible to all runners. He has generously 'given away the store' so that we can all benefit! A must-buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for coaches and athletes, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Run Workouts for Runners and Triathletes (Workouts in a Binder) (Spiral-bound)
I had the great pleasure to work with Bobby prior to the 2008 Olympics, and was loking forward to this book. It did not disappoint. As a coach, I am always looking for new ways to improve the performance of my athletes. Run Workouts gave me new ideas and training progressions for all types of run training.

This book should be on the shelf of every coach and self coached athlete.

This is a great book with a lot of workouts - and the best part is that all workouts have definitions for those of us who don't know all the technical running terms! It's also nice that there are choices for the length of race you're training for...

I consider myself as an "average" runner even after doing a couple of Ironmans and a few other marathons and half Iron distances. All that because I've always run the same way, same pace, same workout (just increasing mileage).
New workouts are always good. It takes you to a different routine on your regular week training.
Even we always pick some as favorites, there is a lot of workout options in this book to choose from so you don't need to worry about repeating exercises.
I've just got the chance to do a few workouts, but I'm very excited about where this book will take me, not even referring performance wise but also at the motivational side of training with new week routines.
The sweat proof pages is a nice touch, but not really useful. You'll probably memorize (or transfer to you wristwatch) your workout before go out for running...
The plastic spiral doesn't seem to last that long. I'm considering switch to a wired spiral soon.

Train hard. Have fun.

This completes my set. I have the swim workouts and bicycle trainer workouts in a binder too.
It makes planning my own training a lot easier.

My husband loves the sweat proof pages. And at first glance it is a very impressive book. He has yet to read the whole thing but it looks to be very well put together, covering a range of abilities, with may different workouts. He is very excited to get started with a new routine.

I ordered this book because I do triathlons and running is my weak point. While planning out the upcoming season, I found plans that said to work on speed or endurance, but either had limited examples of workouts to meet those needs or none at all. I got this book hoping that it would fill in those blanks and provide me good workouts that would keep me engaged. I must say that it hasn't failed. I have improved my times and feel like a better runner.

Not only does he have plans for different run distances, he also has plans for different distance triathlons. The plans are easy to follow, but most importantly the workouts are easy to follow. I always played sports and never ran track so I was out of the loop on what the basic exercises were for running. He describes those and makes the workouts clear. Your job with this book is to just follow the plan you chose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bobby McGee's coaching wisdom distilled into a book!, April 18, 2009
This review is from: Run Workouts for Runners and Triathletes (Workouts in a Binder) (Spiral-bound)
Bobby McGee helped me to drop more than 100 pounds and complete the Chicago Marathon. Along the way, Bobby's coaching helped me run several olympic distance triathlons (including the tough Boulder Peak). Bobby's wisdom is invaluable and his training methodology is sound. I was never injured and went from sitting on the couch to 26.2 miles!

Everyone from an elite to a brand new beginner can benefit from Bobby's insight into running. You will get faster and cover more ground with this book.

I do find the book not being in metric to be annoying. This is okay for Americans, but it limits its appeal to the rest of the world. This limitation would affect newcomers more as they might not understand how to adjust the program for metric rather than convert it to metric as some would suggest. That and the fact that most races are in metric and some paces are recommended in mile pace also limit its usefullness to the REST OF THE WORLD.
