A Cinderella story!,

This review is from: The Runaway Princess (Mass Market Paperback)
If you have a love for fairy tales then you will love this book.Evangeline is an orphan who has never had a chance to be her own woman. Suddenly she has the opportunity to travel and spend, so what if the money isn't legally hers? After one little taste of the good life, she will start a new, more quiet existence for herself. She doesn't count on all the gossip that she attracts. Prince Danior is searching for his Princess Evangeline. Together only they can fulfill the prophecy to unite their two countries. His Princess has gotten a bit gunshy as the date that they must be joined together swiftly approaches. She has written him a letter telling him she can't do her duty. He is sure he can make her come around and see that they have to be married for the good of all their people. If only he could find her. When Danior hears about the mysterious stranger staying at an inn, he is convinced she is his princess. He hasn't seen her since she was a child, but she has the coloring and features of her people. This story has adventure. Danior must get his princess back to their country to start their rule. This is not easy because of the rebels who would rather not have the prophecy fulfilled. Also because of Evangeline herself, who knows that Danior has the wrong girl. While there are some discrepencies and there is a supernatural edge to it, this a romantic tale about a girl who has nothing but the dream of a quiet, isolated life. What she winds up with and how she gets it is truly more than she could have ever hoped for. Oh, yes, you will also laugh!

Best ever!!,
This review is from: The Runaway Princess (Mass Market Paperback)
When I looked at this book for the first time, I thought that it would be boring. Another one of the books that have the same basic plot, two people meet, they fall in love, and they get married. But when I started reading the book, I was bored, I couldn't put it down! It was so good. This book had everything. It was romantic, it was funny, and it showed what each person was thinking. The pain that they both has been through. And as Evangeline and Danoir takes their journey back to their castle, they learn more and more about each other. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good romantic book.

One of my favorite romance novels,

This review is from: The Runaway Princess (Mass Market Paperback)
Christina Dodd has written one of my favorite romances of all times with this book. Though the premise is based on "The Misunderstanding", the book is not trite or boring. The book includes all that is necessary for me in a romance: in-depth characterizations, superb dialogue, a little danger and a lot of action, and a hero and heroine to love and cheer for. The only weak part of the book for me was the mysticism thrown in, but it doesn't really detract from the romance between two strong and very individual characters. If you like Julia Quinn, Stephanie Laurens, the early Amanda Quick, or Jillian Hunter, you will love this book.

Okay, maybe the plot is a little silly, but I thought it was great fun to read. I mean, they plan to unite Baminia and Seraphina and they can't agree whether to call the new country Bamphina or Seraminia? It's funny! She's spunky and resourceful. He's a gorgeous hunk with a tender side. Just my kind of heros. Loved it!

A truly delightful fairy tale,

This is the first Christina Dodd novel I ever read. I've since become a big fan of her wittiness and the spunk of her heroines, but this was my first taste.
Evangeline is adorable. Danior is dreamy. Together, they're unstoppable. This is one of those books where you can (or at least I could) see things coming from a mile away, where there was really only a little bit of suspense. I knew exactly what was going to happen, but in an odd way it made it even more wonderful. I knew what was coming, but I was still blown away by Dodd's storytelling, and delighted with the outcome. I guess it's one of those things where you build it up in your mind and you figure the author can't do a better job than your imagination, and then she proves you wrong. THE RUNAWAY PRINCESS is an amazing book. I also recommend ONE KISS FROM YOU.

This book was so much fun -- Evangeline was just what I'd like to be if I was stuck in the situation of having a handsome prince insist I was his betrothed and that I should marry him. <g> She doesn't want to fight him, but he's got the wrong girl and who knows where the real princess is? I had a great time with this book.

Witty, enchanting, completely romantic!,

The dialogue between the lovers was magnetic, quick-witted, and engaging -- it sucked me in so quickly, that I could not stop reading. I dreaded coming to the end of this clever adventure -- the whole setting, the lead characters, and the plot completely charmed me. It was the best romance I've read to date -- it made me want to run out and buy every book Dodd has written.

This is my Frist Christina Dodd book and it won't be my last! I had a blast reading this book! The story is of the heroine named Evangeline and of the hero named Danier, The hero thinks Evangeline is his Princess who was sent away to a convent as a child for protection from the Revolutionarys who would harm, her so that she wouldn't be able to fufill the 1,000 year old Prophecy from St. Leopola and marry Prince Danier and bring both of their war torn countrys back together again! It's a very fast paced book, I finised it in two days, it wasn't boring to me at all! I Loved both main charactes and I loved their banter! Great book!

I fell in love with this book and had to read it again. It had just the right amount of humor and kept me glued to the pages. The persistence of Danior to have his bride and the persistence of Evangeline to get away was priceless. This is one of my most favorite books of all times.

If you are looking for a fairytale with feminist overtones, this is for you. I have enjoyed several of Dodd's Regency novels but this book is too much of a farce. The concept of an orphan reared by an ancient wise woman who is taught esoteric knowledge from all over the world such as oriental martial arts, treatises on how to climb and descend mountains, scientific knowledge on use of plants and to speak 7 languages in a remote English village who traipses off to the Pyrenees for adventure and is captured by a prince who thinks she is his long lost princess is just too outrageous. I got through it cause I didn't have anything else available but it is definitely not one of her best.
