5.0 out of 5 stars How to be human, December 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Runaway Robot (Hardcover)
This is not only a child's adventure but a study in character development. As the robot is forced to overreach himself and his circuit design for the sake of the boy who loves him, he becomes a thoughtful, innovative, caring being. This is one of my all-time favorite books thirty years later.

5.0 out of 5 stars My First Sci-Fi Book, January 27, 2008
This review is from: The Runaway Robot (Paperback)
This book gets an automatic 5 star rating by virtue of it being my first ever science fiction novel. I must have been eight when I read it and I still have a copy in my library.

Written from the perspective of Rex the robot, the language is simple, the action exciting, and the story fun. It is a simple tale of loyalty that starts on Ganymede and ends on Earth, by way of Mars. As an extra bonus, its illustrated, albeit sparsely.

This is a good book for young readers, although you'll probably have to pay more than the $.50 cover price of my copy.

We finished reading The Forgotten Door and are now in the midst of Runaway robot. I can hardly stand to put it down myself....the kids beg for "One more chapter, PLEASE!" every time my husband finishes reading one aloud.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great book!, December 2, 2002

My parents gave me a copy of this book for my eighth birthday, and I still have it. A wonderful book for anyone, and a great book for children. I'm surprised it's not on the Newberry list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy, January 28, 2011
This review is from: The Runaway Robot (Paperback)
I have loved this book since childhood, but my original is in very bad shape. I taped it together for my son, but longed for another one that was still in good shape. Here I found what I sought and for a very resonable cost. Delivery was prompt also. Thanks for this wonderful treasure!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Runaway Robot, November 17, 2010

Well, for one, the book I received was NOT a hardcover. Two, this was the first book I had read that peaked my interests in science-fiction and robots!! I thought, at the time I read it, that it was the most intriguing story I had ever read! I truly wanted a copy for my own personal collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars My first science fiction novel and my first library book!, September 22, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This was the very first book I ever checked out from our public library.
I was 6 years old and it was also my first science fiction book.
I loved it so much it sparked a lifelong love of science fiction.
I read all the Lester del Rey books my local branch had,
then went on to discover Asimov, Clarke, Bradbury, and my boyhood favorite Heinlein.
I wish Lester del Rey were alive today so I could thank him for all the joy that "The Runaway Robot" has brought to me and my children.
