Book Description

Runner

Kathy crashed through the brush and came across a path. She guessed it was probably a deer trail and she had no idea where it went, but it was going away from the house and was clear of underbrush and limbs and briars so she took it. She ran for several minutes before looking back. The man was nowhere to be seen. But she continued running as hard as she could for as long as she could. When she finally allowed herself to slow down her side was cramping, her legs were aching, and she felt like she was going to throw up. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she was gasping for breath. She fought back the panic and tried to will herself to be calm.

These are his woods, she thought. He probably knows them like the back of his hand. And he’s out here somewhere.

When you’re alone in the woods, being chased by a killer…how fast can you run…how far can you go…if you’re running for your life?

5.0 out of 5 stars Empowering suspense February 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
RUNNER is a well written little story, with good pacing and a perfect build up to the inevitable. The author has a way of continually developing the characters throughout the narrative, and I came to care about Kathy and root for her until the end.

You'll happily finish this story in one sitting...not just for its length, but because you won't be able to put it down!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Superb Read!! February 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read Merrill Heath's short story, "Runner," in one sitting. Since I don't have a Kindle reader, I was able to download the Kindle edition to my smart phone. Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. Dinner was late because I had to know how the story ended. This story is so well written. Fast paced.

Merrill Heath knows how to engage the reader. He puts us in his characters' heads and hearts. I was rooting for Kathy. I felt like I WAS Kathy as she ran along, oblivious to the dangers that awaited her. Loved the whole set up. The pacing was spot on as was the dialogue. The villain came across as so believable. That's what made this story even more plausible.

I normally shy away from scary stories, but this one was too good to pass up. Plus, it has a great, satisfying ending. Just the right amount of detail without going overboard.

Great job. I look forward to more writing from Mr. Heath.

This is a terrific story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The writing sounds natural so it's easy to get into it. It's short enough to read in one sitting and I did.

Merrill Heath's earlier work, "Consequences" is, in my opinion, a fantastic book and I enjoyed it greatly and that's why I read, "Runner".

This was a great value ... terrific story for very little cost. Give it a try.
